Hello everybody! It’s @TheMagnumDA with yet another installment of the Pick’em report. Tonight, it’s NIGHT ONE of the biggest party of the Summer – WWE SummerSlam! For nearly 40 years, the WWE has looked to this show as the hottest event of the year. For the first time, WWE is doing it bigger than ever by hosting two nights of SummerSlam! I will be defending the WOPC Championship against Colin in a two-night aggregate battle to determine who is the true King of the Summer! Let’s dive right in!!
ON WITH THE PICKS FOR NIGHT ONE!!
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
The Judgment Day (Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez) (c) vs. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss
Colin: I didn’t think the fans would do a 180 on Flair and actually cheer her. But Alexa – and her Players Tribute article – helped in everyone getting behind the Queen. It’s an interesting pairing to be honest but each of them are more valuable as singles. I’m thinking Judgment Day will retain tonight.
Magnum: This match was put together in a hasty fashion, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this match was a low-key banger. It’s going to be awesome to see Roxanne match up against two of the most decorated female wrestlers in WWE over the last ten years. In the end, I think there’s something brewing with this “We Are Not Friends” mashup of Charlotte and Alexa. I’ll take them to win the titles.
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed (with Paul Heyman)
Colin: Roman finally decided to show up to work again! Hah. I actually missed him on TV. This should be a great match and you know we’re going to see a couple of good-looking spears! Bron and Bronson winning would do them wonders but I don’t think Roman and Jey are taking an L here. Breakker should be kept strong and I wouldn’t be surprised if Reed takes the pinfall. Bloodline wins.
Magnum: Another big time high-profile tag team match. This one came together out of the wreckage that was Seth Rollins’ injury. The smart money play would be a stunning upset of Bron pinning Roman and putting everyone on notice. Sadly, I don’t anticipate that happening. I’ll take the OTC1 and the Yeetman to win it – Roman and Jey stand victorious.
Sami Zayn vs. Karrion Kross (with Scarlett)
Colin: Kross has said that he didn’t sign a new deal and he wasn’t offered one either. His contract is reportedly up very, very soon. The outcome of this match should be telling of what’s going to happen with him, I think. I hope he stays, he and Scarlett are really good and I’m picking Kross to pick up the victory tonight.
Magnum: This one is interesting – they’re 1-1 in their Summer series, and I anticipate that this will be the blowoff. At the same time, I wonder if this will be the start of a Kross push – if so, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has some new henchmen debuting at this show. I’ll take Kross to win.
WWE Women’s Championship
Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill
Colin: Jade looks great, she looks like a proper Superstar. Seriously. But is she ready to run with the WWE Women’s title? I don’t think so. She needs a few more under her belt and then we can talk. Tiff is over like rover and it would be bad if she lost here. Give me Tiffy Time every day of the week!
Magnum: The build for this has been extremely underwhelming – I think there’s a clash here regarding who’s supposed to be working as the babyface, and who’s supposed to be working as a heel. This match needs that formula – who are we supposed to cheer for? Who are we supposed to boo? One might say, “It’s 2025 – the roles don’t have to be clearly defined.” For these two? YES THEY DO. I’ll take Jade to win, with one additional request…please turn heel already.
Randy Orton and Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul
Colin: WWE is obsessed with having celebrities in the ring. It gives them free publicity, although I haven’t seen much for this one. Roll has been on a roll (pun intended) at the WWE PC apparently and he said he’s going to surprise us all today. We shall see, I guess. Both McIntyre and Paul need a W and if this will continue (you know it somehow will), they’re coming out on top.
Magnum: Who asked for this? (Colin puts his hand up)…I knew it. They’ll turn this into something good, because 2 of the 4 people involved with this match are all-time HOF players. Jelly Roll will be fine, but limited, and Logan Paul will do his typical crazy bumps. We didn’t ask for this, but I’m sure they’ll make the best of it. I’ll take Orton and Jelly Roll to win.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk
Colin: Oh man, I’m really hoping Rollins’ injury is a work (see how it’s been forgotten all of a sudden?). I totally expect CM Punk to win the World Heavyweight title tonight, but I don’t see him walking out of MetLife Stadium with it. Seth is going to cash in his MITB briefcase, swerves us all, and keeps his promise of no letting Punk be the champion. Punk wins, then loses.
Magnum: The original WrestleMania 41 Main Event is finally happening – Gunther vs. CM Punk. These two are going to tear the place down. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gunther takes the Ric Flair route and ends up with 15+ World Championships. To become a 15-time champion, though, it means you’ve gotta go down 15 times as well. Tonight will be one of those times – CM Punk finally becomes World Champion again in WWE.
Okay folks, that’s going to do it for the Pick’em Crew for Night One of Summerslam 2025! We’ll see you tomorrow night for NIGHT TWO of this sensational pick’em. See you then! @TheMagnumDA signing off for now.
