The wrestling world remembers Virgil

The wrestling community suffered its second death in the span of a few days as after the announcement of the passing of Ole Anderson, yesterday morning news came out that Virgil passed away as well.

WWE, which will likely run a graphic or video on Virgil at the upcoming Smackdown, wrote, “WWE is saddened to learn that Michael Jones, known to WWE fans as Virgil, has passed away. WWE extends its condolences to Jones’ family, friends and fans.”

TNA Wrestling also expressed its sadness over his passing, writing, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mike “Virgil” Jones. TNA Wrestling offers its heartfelt condolences to his friends and family.”

The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase has still not issued a public statement regarding Virgil’s death but others who worked with him along the years used X to express their condolences.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts: “Shocked and saddened to hear the news about Virgil. Rest in peace, my friend.”

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan: “RIP Virgil. A good man and a performer who really left his mark on wrestling.”

Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake: “RIP Virgil! May God Bless you and forever keep you, brother!”

Marc Mero: “I’m sorry to hear that Former WWE star Virgil, real name Michael Jones, has passed away at 61, weeks after suffering ‘several strokes’ My thoughts are with his family and his numerous fans. RIP”

Mike McGuirk: “Sad news of a friend who has left us and onto soaring high with our wrestling angels who will be there welcoming you. Fly high Virgil”

Matt Hardy: “RIP Virgil, Mike Jones. Virgil was a funny, unique individual that was always cool to me & I’m saddened to hear about his passing. My thoughts go out to his family, friends & fans.”

Adam Pearce: “Godspeed, Virgil. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Rest well, sir.”

Frankie Kazarian: “RIP Michael “Virgil” Jones. Our interactions were always friendly and very memorable. Godspeed sir.”

Rob Van Dam: “Fly high Virgil.”

Honky Tonk Man: “Condolences go out to the family of Virgil. Such a great guy. A real gentleman. Will miss you my friend!”

Sean Mooney: “Saddened to hear of the passing of #MichaelJones. The #MillionDollarMan gimmick would never have worked as well as it did without #Virgil. Rest well my friend.”

GCW: “GCW is saddened to learn of the passing of VIRGIL. He played a memorable part in GCW history, appearing on Joey Janela’s Spring Break Part 1, 2 and 3! We will miss him and remember him fondly. Rest in POWER Virgil!”
