Netflix orders 10 episodes for wrestling-based series G.L.O.W

Variety is reporting that Netflix has greenlit G.L.O.W., a comedy series based on the 1980’s female wrestling league with the same name – Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. The streaming company has ordered 10 episodes for the series with no premiere date, production date or casting announced yet.

Inspired by the real story behind the wrestlers, the series will be the fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers. G.L.O.W. will be set in Los Angeles and is described as showcasing “big hair and body slams.”

The new series is an extension of the 2011 documentary GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling which is available now on Netflix.

The series will be exec produced by Jenji Kohan, the woman behind the Netflix original series Orange Is The New Black. Joining her from OITNB is Tara Herrmann who will also serve as executive producer while Liz Flahive (Homeland) and Carly Mensch (Nurse Jackie) will serve as showrunners. They are also the co-creators of the series.
