Meiko Satomura wrestles her final match in Japan

Former multi-time champion Meiko Satomura had her final match at the Korakuen Hall today in Japan, teaming with Manami to defeat Aja Kong and Chihiro Hashimoto in a tag team match.

The show, which was promoted by Satomura’s own Sendai Girls wrestling promotion, was titled Meiko Satomura The Final.

The 45-year-old received a 10-bell salute and streamers from fans showered the ring after the match. WWE’s Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka, Kairi Sane, and WWE Women’s World champion Iyo Sky all sent in videos which were played during the show.

“Thank you to everyone who came to witness my retirement match today,” Satomura wrote on X later. “I am truly happy to have stepped out of the ring surrounded by so many people I have met over the past 30 years. I will devote my life to making this new era of professional wrestling even more amazing! Thank you.”

Satomura worked for WWE between 2020 and 2023, mainly as part of the NXT UK brand before making her NXT debut in the United States. Her last match for the company was a loss to Roxanne Perez at NXT Roadblock.

She will continue to run the Sendai Girls promotion.
