Jerry Lawler suffers stroke, undergoes surgery

Action News 5 in Memphis is reporting that WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler suffered a stroke yesterday in Fort Myers, Florida.

The 73-year-old, whose condition is serious, underwent emergency surgery and is now recovering at a hospital in Florida.

Longtime friend Dutch Mantell wrote on Twitter that Lawler suffered paralysis on his right side following the stroke but has now regained partial use of his arm. Mantell noted that Lawler’s speech is still affected and that will take more time.

This is the second stroke he suffered since his heart attack. In March 2018, he spent three days in ICU after he had a stroke while at home in Memphis.

“The King” suffered a massive heart attack in September 2012 live on Raw after wrestling a tag team match on Raw and resumed commentary afterwards. Dr. Michael Sampson, WWE’s ringside physician at the time, was credited for saving his life. Lawler returned to WWE TV two months later.
