First cast member for Netflix’s G.L.O.W. series announced

Back in May, Variety announced that Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of a comedy series based on the 1980’s female wrestling league with the name Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, and today, The Hollywood Reporter revealed the first member of the cast – Alison Brie.

Brie will star as Ruth, a struggling actress whose dreams of fame take a surprising turn when she joins G.L.O.W. The series is inspired by the real story behind the wrestlers and will be a fictionalized tale of an out-of-work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers. G.L.O.W. will be set in Los Angeles and is described as showcasing “big hair and body slams.”

The series will be exec produced by Jenji Kohan, the woman behind the Netflix original series Orange Is The New Black. Joining her from OITNB is Tara Herrmann who will also serve as executive producer while Liz Flahive (Homeland) and Carly Mensch (Nurse Jackie) will serve as showrunners. They are also the co-creators of the series.
