Which WWE stars are crazy for football?

With football being one of the biggest sports in the world, we can often see athletes from different sports getting involved with football and sharing their passion on social media. There is a certain unwritten rule that all professional athletes follow, and that is to respect all other sports since they all know the struggle of what it takes to be a professional athlete.

In today’s article, we will focus on the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) where this sport has turned out to be one of the most entertaining fighting sports in the world. Despite the aggressiveness of the athletes and big and strong appearances, it seems like many of them have a soft spot for other sports, including football.

Even though WWE is mostly popular in the United States, we’ve seen many wrestlers that are interested in football, even to the point where they travel oversea to support their favorite European club.

At first, it is really tough to find a connection between WWE and football, but once you start to dig deeper, you’ll find many parallels.

So, let’s highlight some of the WWE stars that shared their passion for football.

Sheamus

The four-time world champion and winner of the 2012 Royale Rumble is a true football fan. Sheamus also has a sweet spot for the Reds as he has been seen with a Liverpool kit on a match in Manchester a few years ago.

Sheamus is an Irish wrestler with a scouse accent, which means that Liverpool is a perfect match for him. He has also been seen with a Liverpool kit during multiple WWE shows in the United Kingdom.

Drew McIntyre

Out of all the biggest clubs in the world, some WWE stars stay true to their roots and support smaller football clubs that they grew up with. That is the situation with WWE’s first-ever British world champion, the Scottish Psychopath that shows his support for the Rangers.

However, this match of Drew supporting the Rangers shared more similarities than you’d think. After years of disappointment on the big scene for both the Rangers and McIntyre, the WWE star finally managed to win the WWE Championship in 2020, and the year after, Rangers managed to become Scottish Champions.

Unfortunately, his national team of Scotland just missed out on a spot among the teams in the World Cup betting lines, as they were beaten by Ukraine, who would then lose against Wales.

Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio is the 2006 Royal Rumble winner which skyrocketed his career making him everyone’s favorite wrestler. So, once you climb to the top of your game, you need to find a team to support that is also on your level.

Rey Mysterio showed his support for Real Madrid, one of the most successful European teams of all time. He visited Real Madrid in 2009 and took pictures with some world-class athletes including Kaka, Raul, and Ronaldo.

And in 2014 it is known that one of Mexico’s World Cup kits was inspired in the famous wrestler, who was born in California, but is of Mexican descendance.

Finn Balor

Finn Balor spent the majority of his career back in NXT, and he is an experienced fighter with a chimp on his shoulder and a two-time NXT Champion. Even though Finn Balor is feared on the WWE stage, he has developed a soft spot for football and likes to attend football games in his free time.

He is a true Spurs fan, and even though watching Tottenham is hardly ‘relaxing’ these days, Finn Balor finds it entertaining.

John Cena

One of the biggest names in the WWE that transformed from rapper to pro wrestler and finally actor has many passions in his life. One of which is supporting big football clubs from Europe. Even though we haven’t got any evidence of John Cena attending a football match, we’ve seen him many times meeting team officials and getting jerseys with his name on the back.

Back in 2008, we spotted John Cena with a Tottenham jersey, but he has never publicly expressed his support for the team. If Tottenham has John Cena as their fan, maybe they should make it mandatory for athletes to play with jean shorts. It will be hilarious.

Triple H

Unlike John Cena, Triple H has never been shy of expressing his support for his favorite football team in the world – West Ham. He is a true Premier League fan and likes to watch most of the matches, especially when his favorite team is playing.

Triple H is a die-hard West Ham fan and has shown his support for the hammers, even when they were going through a rough patch in the Premier League, just like any true fan would do.

Shawn Michaels

If you thought Triple H support for West Ham was strange, wait until you find out which team Shawn Michaels supports. Out of all the European teams, he is a true supporter of Blackburn.

He has been a true Rovers supporter ever since he was a young kid, and the love of football was born after seeing Blackburn being a dominant force in the 1990s. Even though we’ve never seen him publicly attending a match, he has never been shy about revealing his passion for football and the team he is supporting.
