It was one of the most hotly debated issues ahead of WWE Money in the Bank 2021. Would John Cena be a part of the show or would the 44 year old keep to his original plans of returning to the organisation later in the year?
Those that expected the veteran to make an entrance were delighted as Mr P took his place in the ring. Ultimately, he didn’t throw a punch or a slam in anger but Cena’s appearance as he confronted Roman Reigns did enough to convince his fans that there is more to come in 2021 and beyond.
A Welcome Return
Although not on the official list of competitors, the sportsbooks were among those who suspected that John Cena would be involved in the 2021 edition of Money in the Bank. Some fans and wrestling writers had felt that there was a lack of real shocks and star quality up to this point. John Cena could have been the man to provide that plot twist but, while The Prototype didn’t actually compete, he did at least make a belated entry into the ring.
Late Drama
Reigns addressed the crowd as Cena made his dramatic entrance. He didn’t say a word but his silence merely added to the tension and drama as Reigns uttered the words ‘now the world can acknowledge me.’
Cena’s entrance music appeared from nowhere and the man himself sprinted into the ring. Running the ropes, he maintained that silence as he walked calmly towards the 2021 Money in the Bank Champion.
Reigns was also dumbstruck at this point and Cena rounded off the confrontation with his trademark ‘You can’t see me’ hand gesture.
Before viewers could get to the bottom of it all, the broadcast went off air leaving us all to speculate as to what happens next.
What’s Next on the Cena Schedules?
The most logical path in the near future is for John Cena to take part in WWE SummerSlam. It’s the next big milestone on the organisation’s calendar and it’s set to go off this year on August 21st at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
At present, there is only one match confirmed for the night with Bobby Lashley already listed to take on Goldberg in a men’s singles battle for the WWE Championship. That leaves plenty of room for other high profile fighters to be involved and SummerSlam therefore provides the perfect platform for John Cena to make his official comeback.
He may not have made the final cut for Money in the Bank 2021 but his late entrance means that John Cena is back. WWE SummerSlam is the most likely destination but there should be much more to come from a fighter who is far from finished.
