Bryan Danielson on WWE counter-programming: “We’re not at the point of being a threat. It’s just weird!”

Bryan Danielson remains perplexed why WWE keeps counter-programming AEW when they don’t really have to.

Speaking to The Kairouz Bros YouTube channel while doing promotion for AEW in Australia, the former AEW champion questioned the people making these decisions and what they’re thinking.

“In the sense of like, ‘Oh…okay! This AEW thing, it’s a real danger to our billion-dollar business!’ That can’t be it,” Danielson said.

He noted how AEW existing and being successful has changed the landscape of pro wrestling and for wrestlers themselves.

“Wrestlers are being paid more now than ever. From a sports rights perspective, for example, most major sports in the United States, the players get anywhere between 40% to 50% of the revenue and WWE was paying their wrestlers nowhere close to that,” Danielson said.

He said that while they still don’t do that despite their billions in TV rights, they have to pay more because otherwise they can jump ship to AEW.

Danielson revealed that AEW pays that 40% to 50% of their revenue to wrestlers despite making much less money but admitted that they’re still the challengers and catching up because WWE has been around for so long.

“We’re not at the point of being a threat,” Danielson said. “It’s just weird. This is one of the things that people who really crave power and a lot of money play these weird games that I don’t understand!”
