AEW’s Konosuke Takeshita wins the IWGP Heavyweight title

AEW star Konosuke Takeshita became the new IWGP Heavyweight champion after he defeated Zack Sabre Jr. at NJPW’s King of Pro Wrestling show today, an event held at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

The match was the main event of the broadcast and Takeshita won the hard-fought battle with two Powerdrive Knees.

After the match, Takeshita said that those who don’t like the result should come out and face him, with Hirooki Goto answering that call, challenging Takeshita at the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20 event on January 4.

This is Takeshita’s first run with the IWGP Heavyweight title and ends Sabre’s reign at 106 days.
