Meiko Satomura expected to retire next year

Tokyo Sports is reporting that Japanese wrestling legend Meiko Satomura will be retiring from her active wrestling career and will have her final match next year in the Spring.

The 44-year-old Satomura is currently under contract with WWE but has rarely appeared since NXT UK closed its doors. She is wrestling with the company as part of the three-day tour in Japan this weekend.

A formal announcement of her retirement is forthcoming and her last match might coincide with the 30th’s anniversary of her wrestling debut in April.

Satomura will be wrestling Bayley for the WWE Women’s championship tomorrow night in Tokyo in the last leg of the tour, with Bayley writing that it will be an “absolute honor” to wrestle her.

“Feels like I’m having a WrestleMania match 1 week before SummerSlam,” Bayley wrote on X.

She has teamed up with Bayley, Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill against Iyo Sky, Kairi Sane, Dakota Kai, and Tiffany Stratton in the first two shows of the tour.

Apart from being under contract with WWE, Satomura runs her own Sendai Girls promotion in Japan.
