Jon Moxley wins the IWGP Heavyweight title

Jon Moxley won the IWGP Heavyweight title last night at the NJPW Windy City Riot pay-per-view after he defeated Tetsuya Naito in the main event.

This is Moxley’s first run with the title and makes him the first-ever star to win the WWE, AEW, and IWGP heavyweight titles.

The move further solidifies the partnership between AEW and New Japan Pro-Wrestling especially since NJPW now has a champion who in reality is a full-time AEW contracted star and won’t be appearing on every NJPW show, something that commentary reminded people about after his win.

Naito kept the title for 99 days after he defeated Canada at the Wrestle Kingdom 18 pay-per-view in Tokyo this past January.
