The new parent company, Skydance, now owns both companies and their respective assets, making it one of the largest, if not the largest, entertainment company on the planet.
With this acquisition, Skydance is now a minority owner of AEW, with Warner Bros. Discovery previously reported owning less than 10% of AEW. AEW has one more year in its current television rights deal with WBD and an option year that goes into 2028 should it be triggered by the network.
For AEW, their biggest supporter, former WBD CEO David Zaslav, finds himself out of a job and the company will have to negotiate with new people for a potential renewal of their rights deal.
Zaslav bid farewell to WBD employees via a three-minute video today, showing his biggest accomplishments while heading up Warner Bros. Discovery and the shows he brought in, but conspicuously, AEW was not featured at all. AEW was also not featured in the video by Skydance showing its properties and shows they air, whereas the UFC was.
