Wanderlei Silva confirms WWE’s approach for WrestleMania

Former UFC fighter Wanderlei Silva has confirmed that he has received an invitation from WWE for WrestleMania weekend, posting a photo of himself, Chael Sonnen, and the WWE logo on his Facebook with the words, “I received a great proposal of WWE and now I’m wondering what you think of the idea!!!”

On TSN’s Off The Record Sonnen said that he was approached to come to WrestleMania weekend but was not told of the plans. He said that he knows Silva was invited as well and didn’t know if the two were related although considering the rivalry between the two it would be stupid not to assume it’s not. In a statement to PWInsider.com, WWE denied that they have invited Sonnen.

Both fighters are currently retired and Silva received a lifetime ban from the Nevada State Athletic Commission after he refused to submit to drug tests last year. He has stuck to his guns saying that he didn’t apply for a license to fight in Nevada and the NSAC had no jurisdiction to drug test him because of that.

Silva and Sonnen coached The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3, and the two ended up brawling during the show but their fight never happened because of Silva’s failure to apply for a license and because Sonnen was later suspended for two years after failing a drug test.
