The addition of Sami Zayn as the special guest referee for the WWE title match did nothing to Gunther and actually made things worse for him.

Zayn got involved in the match and the two finishes, first doing a fast three count on Gunther and then after the match was restarted, he hit Gunther with the Helluva Kick to cause a disqualification. Earlier in the match, Gunther power bombed Zayn.

All three eventually bickered and argued with Smackdown General Manager Nick Aldis and Rhodes came up with the idea on taking on both Gunther and Zayn in a triple threat match at Night of Champions, which was made official.

Also, Ricky Saints earned himself a WWE United States title shot at the upcoming Night of Champions premium live event after a hard-fought victory against Carmelo Hayes last night on Smackdown.

This will be Saints’ first shot at a WWE title on the main roster since he moved from NXT.

A third title match was also confirmed for the show, with Jade Cargill challenging Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s United States title. Stratton replaced Rhea Ripley on the marketing material for the PLE.
