There were a total of three title changes on SummerSlam Sunday following no titles swapping hands the night before.
Baron Corbin was the first one to pick up some gold in the second match of the night, defeating Trick Williams to become the new WWE United States champion. This ended Williams’ 105-day reign as champion and kickstarted Corbin’s second reign with the title. Corbin only just recently returned to WWE television after an absence of a few years.
Right after that match, a new Interim WWE Women’s champion was crowned in the form of Chelsea Green. Green bested Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Lash Legend, and Tiffany Stratton in a five-way ladder match to grab the big one. It’s safe to say that the Minneapolis crowd approved of the win as they exploded when Green grabbed the title!
And last and certainly not least, Chad Gable defeated Penta when he made him tap to the ankle lock to become the new WWE Intercontinental champion. It’s Gable’s first singles title win in his 13-year career as WWE capitalizes on his recent popularity from the El Grande Americano gimmick. Penta lasted 153 days as champion.
