Stephanie Vaquer discusses why she signed with WWE after big AEW offer

NXT Women’s champion Stephanie Vaquer detailed the complicated signing with WWE while talking to Kevin Felgueras of Rock & Pop FM, admitting that AEW tried to take her by offering more money when they found out she was in town to talk with WWE.

Vaquer said that WWE contacted her first and offered her a spot either on NXT or main roster, with Vaquer originally choosing main roster. WWE were in Toronto for NXT and wanted to fly her in to negotiate a deal.

She said she still had a deal with CMLL and got permission from them to travel to Toronto to talk to WWE. But AEW called in and advised her not to sign anything and offered her a lot of money to join them instead.

She talked to WWE and was told it would be great if she appeared front row on the NXT premium live event that weekend, an offer she declined because she still had one more date for CMLL. When she told WWE what AEW offered, WWE backed off and told her thanks for coming and good luck in AEW because they couldn’t match the offer.

But Vaquer said she received a very important phone call from Shawn Michaels afterward, who tried to convince her to come to NXT with a proposal. HBK asked her if it was about money, and she said it’s not.

“Shawn Michaels understood that and told me some words I will keep for the rest of my life because they are words from a wise person who made me make the best decision.”

She closed by saying that while on her way to Mexico, WWE called her with another offer to go to NXT and complete HBK’s vision, to which she answered, “let’s do it!”
