Smackdown TV report for 07/05/2013

The Smack is being laid Down for us tonight in Topeka Kansas. Smackdown begins with CM Punk making his way to the ring. Punk tells us that if he was John Cena, he would give us a heartwarming speech about the 4th of July being about Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect.

Luckily for us, he is not John Cena. Punk tells us the thing he likes about the 4th is Independence. He likes the idea of a bunch of smart guys getting together, blazing their own trail, and were willing to die for it.

Punk tells us he’s a rebel that never does what he is told, but it interrupted by Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio tells Punk that he is the world champion and Smackdown is his show, and he orders Punk out of his ring. He also makes fun of the fans, calling them a bunch of fat sheep.

Punk says the reason Alberto hates the fans is because he tried to con them by coaxing them into USA chants, but he was a phony and the fans saw right through him. Teddy Long comes out and makes a match between the two of them for tonight’s main event.

When we return, Paul Heyman is trying to give Punk some advice. Heyman thinks Punk is making a mistake fighting Alberto so close to Money in the Bank. Heyman also thinks Punk should have a second pair of eyes for the chaotic Money in the Bank ladder match, and Heyman wants to come out with Punk to the ring one more time.  Punk thanks him, but says no.

Match #1:  USOs versus Rhodes Scholars.

Cody and Jimmy Uso start the match off. After a few exchanges Jimmy tags in Jay and they double team Cody. Cody scores with a dropkick and throws Jay into the corner and they double team him.

Sandow hits Jay with a side Russian leg sweep and follows up with an elbow drop. After some more quick tags and double teams, The Usos win with a stereo splash onto Sandow for the win.

After the match, the Shield appears on the Titan Tron. Rollins and Reigns guarantee they will defeat the Usos at the MITB PPV. Ambrose guarantees he will win the MITB ladder match and become the World champion, declaring “this is what dominance looks like.”

Match #2: Alicia Fox versus Kaitlyn.

Alicia starts strong with several knee lifts followed by a suplex into a bridge.  Alicia puts Kaitlyn in a camel clutch and then slams her head to the mat.  Alicia whips Kaitlyn to the corner and then puts her in a chin lock.

Kaitlyn fights her way out and lands a series of strikes. AJ comes out to distract Kaitlyn and skips around the ring. Kaitlyn stays focused on the match at first and hits Kaitlyn with dropkick. The two wrestlers exchange some more strikes until Kaitlyn gets distracted again and Alicia rolls her up for the win.  After the match, AJ runs away and Kaitlynn chases her.

When we return, AJ is still running in the back and she bumps into Big E Langston. AJ tells him to get the car and hurry, but Big E reminds AJ that Dolph still has a match later tonight. AJ says they can’t wait for him and orders Big E to get the car fast.

Renee Young is in the back interviewing Christian and Randy Orton. Christian reminds us that he has beaten Orton for the title before, and after he wins the MITB ladder match, he’ll become champ again. Orton says he is the man everyone should fear in the MITB match, and also promises to beat Christian later tonight in one more match.

Christian hits Orton with a pendulum kick; Orton responds with a gut wrench over the shoulder cutter.  The two men exchange more strikes and Orton goes for an unorthodox float over/roll up pin attempt but Christian kicks out.

Orton hits Christian with a powerslam and tries to follow up with an RKO but Christian blocks it and counters with a suplex. Christian hits Orton with a spear but Orton kicks out! Orton hits Christian with a rope hung DDT and tries an RKO again but again Christian blocks it. Christian climbs to the top rope but Orton runs under him and hits him with the RKO for the win.

Teddy Long orders Paul Heyman to join Cole and JBL on commentary. Heyman is reluctant because Punk told him to keep away, but Heyman is reluctantly forced to agree.

Commercial

Dolph Ziggler comes to the ring to talk about the last few months. Winning the world title was a dream come true, but then he got a concussion that Alberto Del Rio took advantage of to regain the championship.

Dolph says he is still arrogant because he does things no one else can do, and at MITB, he promises to win back his title.

Commercial

Match #4: Dolph Ziggler versus Drew McIntyre with 3MB.

Drew slams Dolph to the ropes and then they exchange punches. Drew power bombs Dolph into the corner and then beats him down. Drew lands a suplex and some punches; Dolph responds with a kick.

Drew hits Dolph with a backbreaker and then misses with a big boot. Ziggler hits Drew with a stinger splash and a dropkick. Drew lands a punch and tries to take Dolph down, but Dolph counters with the Zig Zag for the win.

After the match, all three members of 3MB go after Dolph but he’s too fast for them.  Dolph runs back into the ring to run circles around all three of them before walking away laughing.

Match #5: Fandango versus Justin Gabriel.

Justin is sporting a silly pony tail these days. The two men lock up and Fandango does a little ass wiggling dance after hitting Gabriel with a shoulder block.  Gabriel lands a spin kick and a chop then does some dancing of his own.

I like Justin Gabriel, but his dancing is about as cool as his pony tail. Justin pulls Fandango to the floor and tries a suicide dive. Fandango blocks the dive with a shot to the head of the airborne Gabriel. Fandango rolls Gabriel into the ring and hits him with a top rope leg drop for the win.

After the match, Zeb Coulter, Jack Swagger, and Antonio Cesaro give one of their political announcements. This time they are upset about the way we celebrate the 4th of July.

Zeb claims we sneak over the border to Mexico to buy fireworks and bring them back here, where they are illegal. I would have expected Zeb to support the people’s right to bear fireworks under the 4th amendment.

Commercial

Match #6: CM Punk versus Alberto Del Rio.

The two men lock up and Alberto lands a couple kicks; Punk responds with a couple shoulder blocks. Punk twists Alberto’s arm and punches him in the ribs. Alberto turns it around and pummels Punk in the corner. Punk hits Alberto with a running high knee and Alberto retreats to the floor.

Commercial

Alberto lands a kick and tries to tie up Punk’s arm. Alberto is still working on Punk’s arm when Punk finally fights his way out. Punk’s arm appears to be hurting and Del Rio attacks it repeatedly.

Punk tries to fight back, but Alberto slams Punk’s arm down on his knees.  Alberto lands a kick to the head of a kneeling CM Punk. Alberto grabs Punk’s arm again, but Punk gets to his feet and lands a couple forearms. Punk bodyslams Del

Rio and climbs to the top, but Alberto cuts him off with a running enzuigiri.  Alberto stomps on Punk’s head and tries to apply the cross armbreaker, but Punk fights out. Alberto hits Punk with a backbreaker and Punk rolls out to the edge of the ring.

Alberto knocks Punk to the floor and then goes after him. Alberto slams Punk into the security barrier and into the announce table. Heyman gets up out of his chair and Alberto punches him in the face. Punk sees Del Rio attack Heyman and he gets mad. Punk takes Alberto down with a flying clothesline and then pummels him.  Punk and Del Rio both get counted out, ending the match.

After the match, Punk rolls Alberto back into the ring and takes him out with GTS. Punk goes over to check on Heyman and help him to the back. Heyman repeatedly tells Punk he’s sorry as Smackdown goes off the air.
