A new United States champion was crowned last night on Smackdown and no, it was not Santos Escobar, but Rey Mysterio!

Escobar was supposed to take on Austin Theory for the title but Theory attacked Escobar twice before the match, leaving him unable to compete. Not wanting Theory to get out of Calgary without a match, Adam Pearce named another opponent: the WWE Hall of Famer.

And luck ran out for Theory, who after 258 days, dropped the United States title to the legendary wrestler who won after a 619 and a splash.

Mysterio then celebrated with fans and the rest of the L.W.O who met him on the ramp.

This is Mysterio’s third run with the United States title.
