Rare 1985 WWF Intercontinental title sells for over $700,000 on auction

A rare 1985 authentic WWF Intercontinental title belt, which was in possession of Conrad Thompson, sold on auction for a whopping $716,750 via Heritage Auctions.

The championship, known as the Red Letter Intercontinental title due to the red WWF logo, was held by Tito Santana, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, and Honky Tonk Man until January 1988. It was the title which Steamboat won at WrestleMania III from Savage and was used for just over 853 days.

The title sold for more than Hulk Hogan’s 1986 WWF Heavyweight title, which went for $414,800 in August.

Thompson got ownership of the belt after Vince McMahon okayed the trade in return for the original Intercontinental title which Pat Patterson held and Thompson owned. WWE wanted the Patterson title after he passed away and Thompson requested this particular title in return.
