Randy Orton undergoes back fusion surgery

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Wrestling is reporting through his Select service that Randy Orton underwent a successful lower back fusion surgery recently, a surgery which will keep him out of action for a long time.

Such surgeries are performed to permanently connect two or more vertebrae in the spine, eliminating motion between them.

Recovery time for fusion surgeries is around a year so it could be a while before we see the Viper back in action.

The 42-year-old was last seen on WWE television on the May 20 episode of Smackdown in the winner-take-all Tag Team title unification match, teaming up with Matt Riddle against The Usos.

A week ago, his wife Kim posted a photo from the hospital wishing Randy a happy anniversary.
