The second main event for SummerSlam was announced last night on Smackdown and much to the surprise of no one it will feature CM Punk defending the WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes.

The match was set up during the opening segment of the show, with Rhodes interrupting the new champion after Punk said he would defend against anyone.

The last time the two were in the ring together the night after WrestleMania 42, Cody Rhodes told Punk to just “say when” and this time, the roles were reversed, with Cody choosing SummerSlam.

And just like that, the highly-anticipated Punk vs Rhodes match was booked for SummerSlam, and with tickets selling badly, or rather, not selling, WWE is hoping that big matches like this one will move the needle.
