Goldberg goes to sleep and loses final match against Gunther

Goldberg’s in-ring career has come to an end with a loss, passing out to Gunther’s sleeper hold in the main event of last night’s Saturday Night’s Main Event on NBC.

The former WCW champion came out for his last match doing his traditional entrance, with former WCW security chief Doug Dillinger knocking on Goldberg’s door for one final time.

Goldberg was flanked by Dillinger, Josh Barnett, Ernest “The Cat” Miller, Chuck Zito, and his son Gabe for his last backstage walk while former WCW referee Charles Robinson officiated.

The 58-year-old came close to winning the title following a spear and a Jackhammer, but took some time favoring his left knee before pinning Gunther, who kicked out in the last millisecond to deny Goldberg one more title.

Gunther then got Goldberg in a sleeper, and while he almost broke free, it was too much and went to sleep. The show went to commercial following the ending and came back for a few seconds with Goldberg in the ring surrounded by his family and friends.

Goldberg said he never lost in Atlanta so he apologized for this performance. He added that he has over 100 friends and family with him who came from all over the world just to see his final match.

“I just wanna say I can’t thank you all enough. For the fans in Atlanta, they have been absolutely wonderful, I love you, I couldn’t have done it without you,” Goldberg said, as the show ran out of time and faded to black.
