Three weeks after the NXT title was vacated by Karrion Kross, there’s a new NXT champion in town and his name is Finn Balor.
Balor defeated Adam Cole in the opening match of NXT on USA Network last night to win his second NXT title, becoming only the third WWE Superstar to hold the title more than once along with Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura. Finn won the match after delivering the 1916 DDT from the top rope.
The Irishman won his first title on July 4, 2015 at The Beast From The East in Tokyo, Japan by beating Kevin Owens and held on to the title for 292 days before losing it to Samoa Joe on April 21, 2016 at a non-televised NXT live event in Lowell, Massachusetts.
This is Balor’s first title win since he returned to NXT last year. He last carried a title, the Intercontinental one, while on the Raw roster, winning it at WrestleMania 35. He moved to the Smackdown roster in April and then lost it to Shinsuke Nakamura during the Extreme Rules Kick-Off show.
