Daniel Bryan announces his retirement

Former WWE World Heavyweight champion Daniel Bryan has just announced his retirement and will be discussing it tonight on Monday Night Raw from Seattle, Washington.

“Due to medical reasons, effective immediately, I am announcing my retirement. Tonight on Raw, I’ll have a chance to elaborate,” Bryan wrote on Twitter.

Bryan’s return to the ring was halted multiple times by Dr. Joseph Maroon, WWE’s head of medical team, who refuses to clear him for in-ring competition. He has already been cleared twice by different specialists however the ultimate decision rests with WWE and its medical team.

The 34 year old has stated in the past that if WWE never clears him, he will return to the indy circuit to do what he does best – wrestle. However there were rumors over the past few days that Bryan actually try to give his notice to WWE but his request was denied as he is still technically under contract.

WWE offered him a position as an announcer on Smackdown as well as a trainer at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, two positions which Bryan has turned down.
