What was unthinkable three years ago happened tonight at WrestleMania as former AEW TNT champion and AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE as Seth Rollins’ mystery opponent.

His introduction ended a month and a half of speculation after Cody severed his relationship with AEW on February 15. His wife Brandi also left with him.

The American Nightmare got the same presentation from his AEW days, with the same intro, same theme song, and same gear and was given a hero’s welcome by the thousands of WWE fans in attendance, delivering one of the biggest pop of the night upon his reveal.

Cody won a long, hard-fought match after delivering the Cross Rhodes three times. After the match, Cody dropped on his knees and kissed the mat in the middle of the ring.

This was his first match in WWE in six years.
