Cody Rhodes beats Drew McIntyre to become three-time WWE champion

The American Nightmare is once again holding gold in WWE as Cody Rhodes became a three-time WWE champion last night on Smackdown, beating Drew McIntyre in the main event of the show.

The match had a couple of referee bumps and some close calls when it comes pinfalls and McIntyre was looking at ending Rhodes once and for all with a chair when Jacob Fatu showed up out of nowhere and took McIntyre’s chair away. Fatu was the one who originally cost Rhodes the title against McIntyre in a Three Stages of Hell match back in January.

The distraction allowed Rhodes to hit a cutter and then his finisher for the three-count victory.

McIntyre’s run with the title lasted just 56 days and now looks to be heading into a program with Fatu for WrestleMania.

As for Rhodes, he will put the title on the line against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42 and a contract signing is set for next week’s Smackdown.
