Cena vs Orton confirmed as Backlash 2025 main event

The Backlash main event was confirmed last night on Smackdown, with new champion John Cena defending the WWE Championship against Randy Orton.

The event will take place from Orton’s hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, and over 14,000 tickets have already been sold for the show, making it close to a sell-out.

The two were involved in a long opening segment on Smackdown, with multiple insults thrown each way, and ultimately, Cena attacking Orton with the title. But The Viper had the last laugh after he landed his second RKO on Cena in the span of a few days, leaving the champion laid out in the ring.

While Cena and Orton wrestled several times over the past 25 years, this will be the first time that it will be a heel Cena against a face Orton.

Backlash is on Saturday, May 10 and tickets are available from Ticketmaster.com.
