Alex Shelley wins the Impact World title at Against All Odds

Alex Shelley became the new Impact World champion last night after he beat Steve Maclin in the main event of Against All Odds which aired exclusively on the Impact Plus streaming service.

The 40-year-old, who had multiple stints with the promotion dating back to 2004, has never won Impact’s biggest title although his career there was quite a successful one, winning the tag team titles three times with his partner Chris Sabin and the X Division title once.

His win ends Steve Maclin’s short reign which only started in April at the Rebellion pay-per-view when he beat Kushida in the main event after the title was vacated by Josh Alexander due to his injury. He successfully defended the title twice, against Rhino and PCO.

Shelley’s first title defense will come at the July Slammiversary pay-per-view where he will take on Nick Aldis, who last night became the #1 contender after winning the 8-4-1 match.
