SummerSlam gets closer to 40,000 tickets sold

SummerSlam is inching closer to 40,000 tickets sold as WWE moved a couple of thousands of tickets more over the past 48 hours.

The new capacity is now at 39,074 according to ticket tracking service @WrestleTix and the total number of tickets sold is at 38,353. New sections were opened up yesterday to accommodate the big surge in the final hours and they can also open the last three rows in the upper tier if needed.

With walk-ups and considering how much tickets were sold in the last two days, it 40,000 would not be a far stretch although WWE is likely to announce an attendance higher than that as usual.

WWE never intended to sell out a whole stadium, in fact, only half of it was available from the start. The show would have been a great financial success with 30,000 tickets out but getting closer to 40,000 is surely a lot better!

Max Dupri returns with Maximum Male Models!

Well, that did not last long!

After PWTorch reported that Vince McMahon pulled the plug on Max Dupri and kicked him out of Maximum Male Models, the former LA Knight returned as the mouthpiece for MMM on last night’s Smackdown.

With McMahon completely out, the decision was taken to place Dupri back with the group, a week after his “sister” Maxxine was introduced and poised to take over from him. Maxxine is Sofia Cromwell from NXT who was working with Von Wagner and Mr. Stone lately on television.

After showcasing the new beachwear apparel on Smackdown, Dupri said that they are looking for more models to join their stable.

Paul Levesque addresses the wrestling press for first time after promotion

Paul Levesque addressed the press at the conclusion of the WWE tryouts in Nashville yesterday, his first time since being in charge of talent relations and creative.

Surrounded by cameras and members of the media, the WWE Hall of Famer took questions about the future of WWE and life in general.

“There are massive pair of shoes to fill that I am trying in someway to fill into,” Levesque said. “But I do not dream for one second that I can fill those shoes by myself.”

He acknowledge the massive job they have in front of them and said that to continue the legacy of what’s been going on and what made him fall in love with the business that he (Vince) created, it’s going to take a collective effort from himself, Stephanie, Nick Khan, Kevin Dunn, and all the WWE Superstars who he called the greatest hardest working talent in the world.

Levesque said that they will take this business to new heights and new levels and while there’s a lot of hard work to do, there’s no doubt in his mind that they can do it.

Addressing his health in a question asked by Ariel Helwani, Triple H said, “It took a little bit to get over it, but I’m passed it, I’m over it, I’ve got a clean bill of health, I’m 100%.”

He said he approaches life differently now and joked that there’s something called sleep and no one should be afraid to sleep because it’s good for them.

“I have a new appreciation for life, it’s precious it doesn’t last long. Embrace your family, embrace your friends, tell them you love them. It doesn’t last long,” he continued as he looked at the people surrounding him.

He said he’s not sad that he’s done with his in-ring career. He was winding it down anyway and rode it all the way. He didn’t need the perfect out but ultimately the wheels fell off.

Levesque ended his meeting by saying that he will do everything in his power to make this thing better than it’s ever been before.

Rampage TV report for 07/29/2022

Arena: DCU Center
City: Worcester, MA

It’s Saturday morning, and you know what that means…  it’s time for our Rampage Review!

Best Friends & Orange Cassidy vs Lethal, Sonjay Dutt & Satnam Singh

Backstory: One of those lame interrupted interviews where a challenge was made

My God Trent’s ripped.  An immediate roll-up saw Lethal kick out, countering with pinning combo’s of his own, then Trent replied once more.  Nice quick sequence with both guys trying to win early.  Slick wrestling.

Tagging in, Orange drew chants from the crowd, then a loud gasp as he called-in Singh.

Dutt tagged in instead, proceeding to take off his jacket, unbutton his shirt, hand his jacket to the ref and then tag straight back out to Satnam, who manhandled Orange into the heels’ corner, crossbody’d both Friends as they came to help, then tagged in Lethal to viciously stomp Cassidy in the corner as the ads arrived.

Returning to a standing switch, Cassidy leapfrogged Lethal, tagging in Chuck who hit a belly-to-belly before tagging in Trent for the soul food half-&-half as Jericho compared Taylor to Bobby Eaton.  To be fair, he went out of his way to put all the guys over.

After interrupting their hug, Singh was double dropkicked off the apron, only for Lethal to strike with a double Lethal Injection.  That hug in the middle of a match makes them look geeky enough without being caught-out twice by the heels.

Cassidy tagged in: cross body from the top, tornado ddt, Dutt tagged back in, mimicking Orange’s weak kicks; Cassidy broke his pencil in response, then Dutt ate (drank?) an Orange Punch and a pinfall.

Fun opener, nothing special but enjoyable.

Post-match, the heels attacked only for Wardlow to make the save.  Do you think if he begs hard enough Max’ll take him back?

WINNER: Best Friends & Orange

Recap vid from FTR vs Briscoes.  You barely saw the latter.

Ethan Page vs Leon Ruffin

Backstory: Apparently this is a rematch from a recent Dark where EP got the 1,2,3

I happen to like Ethan Page.  Looks good, can work, can talk.  But in AEW he’s a high-level enhancement talent.  Wins when the cameras are off; loses when they’re on.  Meaning this was enhancement vs enhancement.  And enhancement + enhancement = a waste of my time, your time and tv time.

Nothing match.  You know the outcome.

WINNER: Ethan Page

Cole Karter was with Lexi.  QT offered him a spot in the Factory, seems he had an off-screen connection with them before NXT.  Then they made another ‘sleep with the fishes’ ‘joke’.  Considering how much AEW loves to mention beating NXT, they sure do expect their audience to watch it.  This is as insider as it gets.  Anyway kids, the message here is: get fired for a drugs violation; you’ll be skipped straight to the front of the queue.

Matt Sydal vs Lee Moriarty

Backstory: Uncool ‘dad’ Sydal scolded Moriarty last week for cheating, ‘punishing’ him in typical bad-parent fashion by making a threat he can’t follow through on

Noticeably, the crowd began to filter out during this contest.

Moriarty mockingly put up a peace sign with a cheesy grin during Matt’s entrance.  About sums it up.

Yet Sydal was still stupid enough to offer a handshake, Lee responding aggressively with a headbutt, wicked uppercuts, and a front chancery until Sydal struck with a jumping knee as the break beckoned.

A hurracanrana was rolled through by Moriarty into a two count, then blasting his ‘teacher’ with a hell of a lariat and knees to the gut until Sydal responded with a weak-looking question mark kick and a lightning spiral for a close 2.  Just as Stokely Hathaway made his way down the ramp to interfere while Moriarty feigned an ankle injury, allowing Lee to crotch Sydal on the ropes, hit a flatliner which Sydal kicked out of but an immediate Border City Stretch brought the tap.

This was a well-worked match in which the crowd were chanting ‘Evan Bourne sucks!’  Sydal might guarantee a good match; he also guarantees no-one’s going to care because his character’s so immeasurably lame.  People could be seen leaving/going to concessions even as Matt was in the match-winning hold, and the guys were having to yell and grunt because the crowd was so quiet.

Afterward, Hathaway offered his business card; Moriarty accepted.  Hard to blame him, a literal mouthpiece would be a better representative than Sydal.

WINNER: Lee Moriarty

Britt Baker promo. Did a good job sewing discord between ThunderStorm.  Nice to hear Baker actually cut a promo outside of the usual catchphrases.

Mr. Schiavone beckoned Claudio & William Regal to the ring.  Waking-up the fans. Castagnoli, an incredibly genuine, beaming smile on his face, thanked the fans in 4 languages and called out Wheeler Yuta to loud ‘Yuta’ chants.  Ranting about ‘sports entertainment’, Jericho interrupted.  Yuta cut him off, saying he beat ‘your boy’ Garcia last weekend.  Long story short, Yuta manipulated Jericho into giving him a match Weds. with Jericho’s title shot on the line.

The youngster was very good here: composed, confident and convincing.  While Jericho put on a clinic in playing the dumb, vain, easily manipulated heel.  Extremely entertaining segment which the crowd greatly enjoyed.

‘Trash Boys’ music video.  Catchy tune.  ‘Yo, you shoulda shot blanks from ya Smokin Gunn’.  ‘We got 2 words for ya: dumpster match.’  Slick build into a match that plays off Billy’s past.  Like it.

Anna Jay vs Ruby Soho

Backstory: Ruby et al chased-off Jay after the Sammy/Dante match Weds, Tay Conti slammed Ruby’s arm in a car door a few weeks back

Tony Schiavone’s a national treasure.  ‘Announcers, who thinks Wheeler Yuta can beat Chris Jericho? Raise your hand.’

The lights over the crowd were noticeably down because so many people had left.  Those that remained were pretty into this however.

Cagey start with Soho grabbing a headlock.  Felt like she should’ve come out all guns blazing.  She did strike with a wicked-looking knee to the face moments later, but then spoiled it with an overly-choreographed spot requiring her to hang upside down in the corner while Anna kicked her in the injured hand (like the old Ultimo Dragon spot), which she’d had no problem using to support all of her bodyweight.

Returning just in time to see Anna removing the brace on Ruby’s arm, she tried to use it as a weapon but Aubrey snatched it away, Ruby throwing shots with her off-arm but couldn’t lift Anna and ate a thrust kick, but fought back, lifting Anna for a suplex but the momentum didn’t last, her arm immediately targeted once more.

Soho ‘struck’ with those really bad looking rapid-fire headbutts, some kicks and strikes, knee to the mid-section, great looking kick to the side of the head and a back-heel trip for a two-count with the crowd behind her.

A Gory special immediately brought her back to earth, Jay grabbing a two, though beginning to snap at her failure to get the win, threatening to choke out random fans as she did Wednesday, then locking in the Queenslayer which Ruby transitioned out of into no future but Jay kicked out.

Pretty good match so far with a simple but effective story.

Finally, ref distracted, Anna used Ruby’s wrist brace for additional leverage; Ruby passed out in the Queenslayer.

Tony Khan got his Drake on this week: ‘Former WWE wrestlers, do you love me? Are you signing?  Cause you’re never gonna leave from beside me.’  In Ruby’s case, let’s hope she didn’t delete Hunter’s number.

WINNER: Anna Jay

Next Dynamite:

  • Jericho vs Yuta, Winner faces Mox for title the week after
  • Undisputed Elite return (Guessing Cole’ll be put in middle who he chooses for trios tourney)
  • ThunderStorm vs Britt & Hayter
  • Christian vs Matt Hardy
  • Orange Cassidy vs Jay Lethal
  • Hobbs in action
  • Acclaimed vs Gunn Club, Dumpster match

Next Rampage:

  • It’ll be live

Battle of the Belts III (Sat 6th Aug)

  • Claudio vs Takeshita, ROH title

Overall impressions

It’s now beyond safe to say Rampage isn’t even pretending to be an ‘A’ show.   They tried for a few weeks, then gave up.  It’s Dark: Elevation with some lipstick.  The middle dragged badly but the tentpoles were good and the Yuta segment was excellent.

Check Out…

  •  The Yuta/Jericho segment. Fantastically entertaining.

Thanks for reading.  Have a great weekend!

The Rock sends emotional video tribute to Ric Flair ahead of last match

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a surprise appearance during the Roast of Ric Flair last night, appearing via a pre-taped video message as an emotional Flair looked on.

Taking a page literally out of Flair’s “jet flying” line, The Rock recorded his message at an airport sporting an XFL shirt.

Johnson recounted how he met Flair when he was a kid and how back in the day, his mother would be sewing Flair’s robes.

“Even at eight years old, I will never forget, you were so kind to me. So kind to me, even if I was just a punk kid,” Johnson said. “And when I was a little older, I met you at the NWA convention in Las Vegas when I was 12 years old and I went up to shake your hands, ‘Excuse me Mr. Flair, I’m…’ and before I could introduce myself, you went Dewey and you gave me a big hug!”

Johnson said Flair treated him good and made him feel special and he would never forget that. He said that when years later his dad passed away, he was one of the first people who called him and said he’d be down in Florida for his funeral.

“The best thing about you, in my opinion, is the human being that you are. Thank you for being such a great human being to me, and to my family, and to my grandmother who you as NWA world champion, would stop in Hawaii, you knew you were getting a shitty payoff, but you still went because you love the business and you cared for my family,” Johnson continued.

“I love you, congratulations on your last match, and of course I want to end this the only way I know how….Wooooo!”

Drew McIntyre gets title shot at Clash at the Castle event in Cardiff

Former two-time WWE champion Drew McIntyre booked his place in the main event of Clash of the Castle in early September after last night on Smackdown he defeated Sheamus in the opening match of the show to become the number one contender for the Undisputed WWE Universal championship.

The Clash show will take place in Cardiff at the Principality Stadium where over 60,000 tickets have already been sold. The September 3 show will be the first stadium show in the United Kingdom in 30 years and will be the first major show since SummerSlam 92 in the country.

The participation of McIntyre in the main event was largely expected and the Scotsman will surely get a hero’s welcome. The question now is who he will be facing: Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar? We won’t have to wait much longer to find out the answer as Reigns and Lesnar go head-to-head tonight in a last man standing match at SummerSlam.

Despite being a two-time WWE champion, McIntyre never got to come out as champion in front of fans as both his title wins came during the ThunderDome COVID era.

Smackdown TV report for 07/29/2022

Arena: State Farm Arena
City: Atlanta, GA

A Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook match to see who faces the WWE Unified Universal Champion at Clash at the Castle kicks off the broadcast.

Drew McIntyre VS. Sheamus

Before the bell as Drew was making his way to the ring, Sheamus attacks. They fight to the ring where the bell rings and the match officially begins. Both continue hitting each other with chairs and other objects. Sheamus goes for White Noise on a stack of chairs, but Drew reversed and hit the future shock DDT on the chairs but only gets a two count.

Butch gets involved and get a Claymore and Drew turned around into a Brogue kick, but Drew was able to kick out at 2. Fans chant “This is Awesome.”

Sheamus goes for another Brogue Kick but Drew catches him and powerbombs him through a table that was set up in the ring. Drew catches Sheamus with a Claymore to end the match.

Winner: Drew McIntyre

After the match, as Drew was being interviewed in the ring, Theory comes out of nowhere and attacks Drew with the Money in the Bank briefcase right to Drew’s face.

As they showed footage of Corbin attacking Pat McAfee again, we come back to live feed and find Corbin sitting at ringside with a poster of McAfee with loser written on it and said he bought a ticket to be there and there is nothing McAfee can do about it.

After break they show what happened at Raw with Riddle and Seth Rollins and announce Riddle is medically disqualified from his SummerSlam match. We go back to Cole and McAfee again and Corbin is throwing popcorn at McAfee. They go over the rundown for the matches at SummerSlam tomorrow night and you hear Corbin yelling over them the whole time. McAfee stands up as Corbin continues to agitate him and then throws the whole bag of popcorn on McAfee. Officials quickly come out as Corbin jumps the railing and Corbin kicks McAfee in the crotch area as officials push Corbin away, Cole yells “what is wrong with you get out of here”.

Theory is walking in the back and is stopped by Kayla Braxton and Theory says he is sick and tired of everyone treating him like a punching bag. And he is going to win at SummerSlam and cash in and win the WWE Unified Universal title.

As he walks away, he walks into Paul Heyman who begins talking to Theory, but they cut away to Cole and McAfee.

Shotzi VS. Aliyah

Action spills out of the ring and Shotzi throws Aliyah back in the ring and hit a finisher called “Never wake up” for the win.

Winner: Shotzi

They show footage from last week where Adam Pearce put Sonya Deville in a match and she lost to Raquel Rodriguez. During the break she got a microphone and started yelling at the crowd saying you boo me and cheer when I lose and says there is not a person in that locker room that is going to make me get out of this ring. Ronda Rousey comes out put Sonya in an armbar and made her tap out.

As Liv holds the Smackdown Women’s championship in the air, Natalya comes in and tells Liv to suck it up, suck up every second of her final hours as champion because Ronda is going to destroy her in record time tomorrow at SummerSlam.

Liv just says I don’t think so and Natalya says she is the reason she has that championship because she destroyed Ronda for to cash in. Sonya Deville comes in and says that it is ironic that Ronda calls herself the baddest woman on the planet yet last week she came out after Raquel had already hurt her. Liv tells Sonya she’s a sore loser and Natalya and Sonya begin to argue as we cut to the ring where Shotzi is still there with a microphone in hand laughing.

As Shotzi begins to scream, Ronda Rousey’s music hits and she comes out. Ronda tells her to get out of the ring and give her the microphone and Shotzi goes to hit Ronda who ducks and slams Shotzi and then gives her the Samoan drop and rips the microphone out of her hand.

A fan heckles Ronda and she responded, “Oh shut up your mom failed you” and continued to call out Liv Morgan to show “these chicks” why they are fighting for the title tomorrow night and not them.

Ronda Rousey & Liv Morgan VS. Natalya & Sonya Deville

During the match Liv started refusing to tag Ronda in. Finally, Liv pulls herself up on the ropes close enough Ronda tagged her to come into the match. As Ronda goes for the armbar, Natalya breaks it up and Liv comes back in and hits Natalya with oblivion while Ronda locks an ankle lock on Deville who quickly taps out.

Winners: Liv Morgan & Ronda Rousey

After the match Liv and Ronda have a brief stare down and Ronda walks over and raises Liv’s arm. They then have some words and another stare down.

The Street Profits come out for the “Referee Instructions” with the Usos and Jeff Jarrett.

Jeff Jarrett comes out and says, “Double J has something to say, Street Profits I have some words for you, and Usos I definitely have some words for you.” The Usos quickly interrupt and start asking if it’s a disqualification if they punch Ford in the nose. Or is it a DQ if he grab both these titles and wrap them around Dawkins’ head.

The Street Profits then started saying about laying them out at SummerSlam and getting announced as the new Undisputed Unified tag team champions. Jarrett finally got in between the two teams and started trying to gain control of the conversation. Jarrett says he is not here to contain them today, but here to let them run wild. “I only have one job tomorrow night and that’s when two shoulders are on the mat, and I count 1-2-3. But that’s tomorrow night. But tonight it looks like you have some issues and if any one of you guys feel froggy why don’t one of you jump!”

Dawkins says Hey Double J, there ain’t going to be no jumping but is it a disqualification…and both he and Ford punch both the Usos at the same time. Both teams fight as Jarrett sits on the top rope watching them. As they fight, they got close to Jarrett as he jumps out of the way Jey went for a super kick on Ford but Ford ducks and the kick hits Jarrett. Usos look in shock.

The Profits are against the ropes looking in amazement, as Jarrett slides back toward a corner, the Usos begin to argue a little between each other. They go over to help Jarrett up, Jarrett pushes Jey, and then pushes Jimmy. Dawkins then runs and knocks both Usos out of the ring. Ford then runs the ropes and dives over the top rope taking out the Usos on the floor. Jarrett just stands at the ropes staring at the Usos as the Street Profits first hold up the tag team titles then drop them out to the Usos. Jey continues to say, “my bad Jeff”.

Progressive Match Flo Show the Viking Raiders and New Day issues from the past few weeks.

They show Maximum Male Models with Max Dupri this week.

The New Day VS. The Viking Raiders

Kofi gets power bombed by both Raiders for the win.

Winners: The Viking Raiders

After the match, the Raiders go grab their shields and a chair and come back in the ring, Xavier comes back in the ring where Kofi is still laid out and goes to defend Kofi but gets smacked with a shield. They then throw Kofi out of the ring, they place Xavier’s leg in the chair, high five with the shields then hit both shields onto the chair at the same time. Woods is in instant pain. Woods ripped his shoe off and was in visible pain to an already injured left ankle as officials come in to help him and Kofi crawling back in the ring.

The Special Counsel’s Special Address is next.

Heyman says the Tribal Chief will be the last man standing tomorrow night as 700 days as the Heavyweight Champion. For 35 years no one has ever gotten to 700 days in the modern era. Brock Lesnar will not be the spoiler. He continues to say after Roman puts Brock down for the 10 count we will be done with Brock Lesnar once and for all.

Brock Lesnar comes out. Heyman looks like he is scared to death. Lesnar gets in the ring and Heyman backs up and is trying to hand Lesnar the microphone and Theory comes in and smashed the Money in the bank briefcase against Lesnar’s back, but Lesnar grabs the briefcase and begins to beat Theory with it. Lesnar then suplexes Theory a few times.

As Theory grabs the briefcase and was trying to leave the arena, Drew McIntyre hits a Claymore on Theory and lays him out at ringside as Heyman looks on from the ramp and Lesnar looks on from the ring.

Linda McMahon on the defensive after reporter asks about Vince’s resignation

At the America First Agenda Summit, the chairwoman of Donald Trump’s Super PAC America First Action, Linda McMahon, was asked about Vince McMahon’s resignation from WWE and the investigation into the alleged hush money.

“Yeah, I’m not going to talk about Vince and WWE. I’m here to talk about AFPI,” Linda responded when the question popped up.

The reporter pressed, telling Linda he was just wondering on her thoughts about him leaving WWE as wrestling fans “can’t believe it.”

After thinking about it for a second, Linda replied, “You know what? He’ll just be deciding on how he spends his free time. I think that’s a good thing.

Asked again if she’s concerned at all about the hush money investigation, Linda put her hand in the air and said, “No. Come on, I told you I’m here to talk about AFPI. Bye bye.”

Linda, who was appointed as Administrator of the Small Business Administration by President Trump in December 2016 and formed part of his cabinet, resigned from her post in 2019 and was tasked by Trump to lead America First Action to raise funds for the election campaign.

Early betting odds for top three SummerSlam 2022 matches

WWE is back with another premium live event, its second for the month of July, with SummerSlam tomorrow night live from Nashville.

Eight matches are currently on the card and today we take a look at the betting odds for top three matches taking place and tomorrow we’ll run down the full card. Remember, odds can and will probably change by the time the show starts so be careful. While waiting for the event to start you can also check out casino non AAMS Affidabili.

The Undisputed Universal WWE title will be on the line in a last man standing match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar in what WWE is billing as their last match against each other. Well, for now at least. The Tribal Chief is currently the favorite with odds of 2/9 to walk out of Nashville with both titles while Lesnar is 3/1 underdog.

In a rematch from the last SummerSlam, Bianca Belair defends her Raw Women’s title against Becky Lynch, who last year took only 26 seconds to regain her title. This time around, Belair is the favorite with 1/4 odds while Lynch might have a frustrated night with her odds at 11/4 for now.

And in the Smackdown Women’s title match, new champion Liv Morgan defends against former champion Ronda Rousey. Liv successfully cashed in her MITB briefcase earlier this month on an injured Rousey to fulfill her dream of becoming champ. While Rousey usually dominates the odds, it’s Liv Morgan who is favorite in this match and her odds are at 1/2 against those of Rousey who is at 6/4.

Impact rating for 07/28/2022

Impact Wrestling on AXS TV drew just 96,000 viewers, down 11,000 viewers from last week’s broadcast and the least-watched show since April 7. It did a 0.03 in the 18-49 demo, the same as last week, and placed #147 in the top 150 chart for the night. (Ratings credit: Showbuzzdaily.com)

Seth Rollins at WWE tryouts today in Nashville

While officially he does not have a match at SummerSlam yet, Seth Rollins is obviously in Nashville for all the SummerSlam activities and today he showed up at the WWE tryouts which are being held at Wildhorse Saloon.

Today’s event was open for the public as WWE sold tickets to the tryouts for the first time ever. Rollins was seen interacting with the others and has several media obligations booked as part of the weekend.

His match against Riddle was removed from the card this week after WWE said that Riddle was injured following Raw. But Riddle is not injured and the match was removed due to creative reasons.

The tryouts got some added publicity with NBA star Dwight Howard showing up yesterday and even today where he participated in drills and promos trying to impress the scouting coaches.
