Bash In Berlin main event match announced

The Bash In Berlin main event was made last night on Raw and will feature Gunther defending his WWE World Heavyweight title against Randy Orton.

Orton is from Smackdown but appeared on the show last night to challenge the champion, reminding him that the King of the Ring final win Gunther has over him comes with an asterisk as his shoulders were not down on the mat despite the referee counting to three.

The Viper said he respected the referee’s decision but he still wanted another shot at Gunther and the newly-crowned champion accepted the challenge.

Gunther got the title shot at SummerSlam because he won the King of the Ring tournament in Saudi Arabia.

Gunther vs Orton is so far the only match announced for Bash In Berlin which takes place on Saturday, August 31 in Germany.

SummerSlam fallout live on Raw tonight on SyFy

Raw

The fallout from SummerSlam will take place tonight on Raw live from Baltimore, Maryland and just like last week, the show will air on SyFy instead of USA Network due to the Olympics coverage.

Five matches are being advertised so far for the show including Sheamus vs Ludwig Kaiser, Dakota Kai vs Sonya Deville, Awesome Truth vs A-Town Down Under, The New Day vs AOP, and the in-ring debut of The Wyatt Sicks vs Chad Gable and The Creed Brothers in a six-man tag team match.

Plus, the new WWE World Heavyweight champion Gunther will be in the house along with CM Punk and Drew McIntyre who will continue their feud after their first match at SummerSlam.

Raw returns to USA Network next week.

Logan Paul comments on losing the United States title

Former United States champion Logan Paul made his first public comment since losing the belt at SummerSlam.

“279 days as United States Champion, the 3rd longest US Title reign in WWE history,” Paul wrote on X. “I really gave it my all in my hometown, it was a dream performing at the stadium where I grew up watching the Browns play.”

Paul wrote that SummerSlam was a “fkn banger all the way through” and he’s honored to be part of this great company.

“Congratulations @RealLAKnight, I’ll be in touch about my broken truck,” he added.

Paul also added “Roman Reigns is back” with an exploding head emoji to wrap up his post.

Dates for AEW’s fifth year anniversary and Title Tuesday shows announced

AEW logo

AEW has announced the dates and locations of its fifth year anniversary broadcast of Dynamite and Title Tuesday, which will once again go head-to-head with NXT.

Dynamite’s fifth-year anniversary show will be held on Wednesday, October 2 live from the Peterson Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It will be exactly five years to the day of AEW’s debut episode. Tickets for this show will go on sale on August 9 at AEWTix.com.

The Title Tuesday episode will take place a week later, on Tuesday, October 8 live from the Spokane Arena in Spokane, Washington. Dynamite will be preempted on Wednesday due to the TBS coverage of the MLB playoffs and that puts it in a head-to-head competition with NXT for one night a year only. Tickets for this show also go on sale on August 9.

Last year’s show saw NXT easily beat AEW in head-to-head numbers after WWE loaded up the broadcast with the likes of John Cena, The Undertaker, Paul Heyman, Asuka, and other main roster stars.

Roman Reigns advertised for post-SummerSlam Smackdown in Tulsa

Fans at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma this Friday night on Smackdown will get to witness Roman Reigns live as the original Tribal Chief is now advertised to appear on the show.

Reigns returned to WWE this past Saturday at SummerSlam and took out Solo Sikoa, helping Cody Rhodes win his second Bloodline Rules match.

Sikoa, who took the reigns of the Tribal Chief with Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu by his side, has been dissing Reigns lately and the former Undisputed WWE champion is now back for revenge.

Reigns took a four-month break from all-things WWE following his loss at WrestleMania and looks like he will be returning as a proper babyface, something which he hasn’t been able to be for years and years.

Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com starting from $20.

Trish Stratus hints at another run in WWE to finish her story

WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus told Sports Illustrated that Cody Rhodes wasn’t the only Superstar with an unfinished story and hinted at a return to the company.

“I loved being back as a special guest in Toronto at Money in the Bank. And who knows, if I can still go, I’ll still keep going,” Stratus said. “I’ll never half-ass it. If fans are interested and it can influence another generation, then we’ll see.”

The former multi-time champion, now 48, has not wrestled since Payback in September of last year. That match was in a cage and was originally scheduled for SummerSlam, but was cut from the program and saved for later.

Stratus said that before she ended her latest run, she wanted a cage match and said that they were looking at a max of 10 minutes for the match at SummerSlam and not in a cage, so she was happy to get a longer time and do it the following month in a cage.

“I know people had thought the ‘dream matches’ were with Charlotte and Mercedes, but I loved working with Becky, too. I wanted to go back as a heel, and it ended up working out so well for us,” she continued.

Jacob Fatu suffers leg injury after splash on announce table during main event

In the post-show press conference, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque confirmed that Jacob Fatu injured his leg but the extent of the injury remains unknown at this point.

Fatu injured his leg when he performed a splash from the top rope onto Cody Rhodes who was placed on the announce table. Fatu immediately clutched his leg upon landing and looked in serious pain, unable to stand up to continue.

“Jacob’s a little banged up, hopefully nothing series,” Triple H said during the press conference. “It was bugging him a little bit the leg.”

Fatu won the WWE Tag Team titles with Tama Tonga on Friday night at Smackdown so his inability to compete if he is injured would have consequences on that as well.

Judgment Day implodes at SummerSlam

It was a particularly very bad night for the Judgment Day faction as it imploded in Cleveland.

Dom Mysterio was the first one to mess things up as he was actually in cahoots with Liv Morgan all along. Mysterio prevented Ripley from hitting Morgan with a chair, saying that she wouldn’t win the title with a DQ and then slid in the same chair for Morgan to use while he distracted the referee. Ripley ended up getting a second Oblivion on the chair, losing the match and the opportunity to win back the title she never lost in the first place.

After the match, Dirty Dom made out with Liv Morgan as a very angry Mami looked on from the ring.

In a backstage segment later, Damian Priest was livid for what happened and wanted to kill Mysterio, who was not there. He unloaded his frustrations on Finn Balor again, asking if he knew what the plan was. Balor said no and left.

Later in the show before his match, Priest apologized to Balor for accusing him of knowing Dom’s plans, but little did he know that he was also about to be double-crossed.

Towards the end of the World Heavyweight title match, Balor came out and helped Gunther put his leg on the ropes to break a pin. With Priest distracted due to Balor’s appearance and action, Gunther locked in a sleeper hold, then a powerbomb, and another sleeper before Priest passed out and a new champion was crowned.

It remains to be seen which side the other members will pick come Raw but one thing is for sure, Judgment Day as we know it is over!

Stephanie McMahon, Arn Anderson, and MGK appear at SummerSlam

Former WWE CEO and Chairwoman Stephanie McMahon made an appearance at SummerSlam and was shown on camera sitting at ringside. Stephanie got a huge pop from the crowd when she was acknowledged on screen, with her husband Triple H later saying in the press conference that McMahon has no official role within the company but expects her to be around more in future events. A video making the rounds also shows Stephanie embracing CM Punk with a long hug after his loss to Drew McIntyre.

Four Horsemen member Arn Anderson also made a surprise appearance, giving Cody Rhodes a pep talk before he walked out for his match against Solo Sikoa. Anderson told Cody that there are some angry islanders but he found some friends willing to even the odds for him. Anderson, who was removed from WWE in 2019, joined AEW where he was a producer and on-screen talent with Rhodes. He left the company a few months ago. At the post-show press conference, Cody said that he found sanity in Anderson during a chaotic time backstage at AEW and hopes he gets to see him more.

Artist Machine Gun Kelly was also a surprise during the event, coming out with Logan Paul for his United States title match. MGK, who is from Cleveland, is not new to WWE programming and once got powerbombed off the stage and through a table by Kevin Owens. MGK got involved in the match as well, handing Paul his brass knuckles.

Speaking of getting involved in matches, Jelly Roll also had his part on the show. He first performed God Bless America and then did the intro for the show live. Later in the broadcast, Jelly Roll came in the ring during the Miz/Truth segment with A-Town Down Under, hitting Theory and Waller with a chair shot, then delivering a picture-perfect chokeslam and the Five Knuckle Shuffle on Theory.

Michael Cole moving to Smackdown, Joe Tessitore to start on Raw next month

It was announced last night during the Countdown to SummerSlam show that Michael Cole will be moving to Smackdown in September while new WWE commentator and ESPN’s Joe Tessitore will move to Raw.

Tessitore, considered one of the best sports play-by-play announcers, will start with the September 2 episode of Raw in Denver. Cole will switch to Smackdown when the show moves back to USA Network on September 13, 2024.

He made an appearance during the SummerSlam pre-show to talk about the move and kind of introduce himself to the audience with his familiar voice.

It remains unclear who their broadcast partners will be but for sure, Corey Graves will revert to being an analyst rather than the main play-by-play announcer.

A previous press release announcing the hiring of Tessitore said that Cole and McAfee would remain on Raw while Tessitore, Graves, and Barrett would do Smackdown.

Four new champions crowned at SummerSlam 2024

Four out of six title matches at SummerSlam ended up with brand new champions, with only Liv Morgan and Cody Rhodes coming out of Cleveland still holding on to their gold.

The first one to fall was Intercontinental champion Sami Zayn. In a relatively quick match, it was Bron Breakker who made full use of his second opportunity for the title and quickly defeated Zayn. This is Breakker’s first title on the main roster, with his dad Rick Steiner and uncle Scott Steiner in attendance witnessing the moment.

Logan Paul’s 273-reign also came to an end with LA Knight winning his first title in WWE. Paul only had two previous successful title defenses prior to yesterday and with him being a part-timer, the title is now back full time on WWE television. YEAH!

Nia Jax became a two-time singles champion when she defeated Bayley in a match that had a hint of a Money In The Bank cash-in. But Stratton only did it as an interference, helping her friend win her first title since she returned in September 2023. She got her shot after winning the Queen of the Ring tournament and ended Bayley’s 117-day reign.

The last title swap came in the World Heavyweight title match, with King of the Ring winner Gunther winning his first world title on the main roster. Gunther defeated champion Damian Priest after Finn Balor turned on his stablemate. Gunther’s wife – and former WWE Superstar herself – Jinny was in attendance to celebrate with him. Gunther spent 666 days as Intercontinental champion, maybe a sign of things to come with the WWE World Heavyweight title.

Roman Reigns returns to claim back his empire, takes out Solo Sikoa

Former Undisputed WWE champion Roman Reigns returned to SummerSlam and interfered in the Bloodline Rules match main event, taking out Solo Sikoa and ending his quest to become champion.

Following interferences by Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Jacob Fatu, Kevin Owens, and Randy Orton, Reigns’ new theme song kicked in and the Cleveland crowd exploded.

Wearing a new shirt with the OTC letters on it – Original Tribal Chief – Reigns took his time to walk down the aisle but ran the last part and then once he hit the ring, he delivered the Superman punch on Solo. The crowd, at this point, was already losing it, and a few seconds later, Reigns hit a big spear on his cousin.

A confused Cody Rhodes looked on as Reigns stared at him before leaving the ring. Rhodes then hit a Cross Rhodes to Sikoa and pinned him to retain the title.

Reigns had been off WWE television since night two of WrestleMania XL.

SummerSlam 2024 results

SummerSlam 2024 pick’em report

Hello everybody! It’s @TheMagnumDA with another edition of the Pick’em report. Tonight, it’s the biggest party of the Summer for WWE! It’s SummerSlam, live from Cleveland Browns Stadium!! Tonight, Colin and I are going to tango for the WOPC Championship that I won back in July. Who will walk out of SummerSlam with the gold? Let’s find out right now.

ON WITH THE PICKS!!

WWE United States Championship
Logan Paul (c) vs. LA Knight

Magnum: I heard that Logan got in some pretty hot water with WWE PR recently for his comments on the Olympics, specifically Women’s Boxing…not the best timing, considering that SummerSlam is in his hometown. LA Knight absolutely needs this win – there’s no turning back for him if he loses this match. Give me LA Knight, and make it quick too. Paul is extremely talented, but he’s a big mouth and a toxic fool. LA Knight will be your new United States Champion.

Colin: Logan Paul is great and all that but he’s taken the title and made it irrelevant with no defenses. So screw him. I hope LA Knight wins this one. Paul doesn’t need the title, I mean, his freakin Prime logo is already on the mat, so he’s already a winner. Take that title away from him and bring it back on TV! LA KNIGHT WINS YEAH!

WWE Intercontinental Championship
Sami Zayn (c) vs. Bron Breakker

Magnum: Sami’s had a fantastic run as IC Champ – I was so stoked to see him defeat Gunther live at WrestleMania. That said, this is Bron’s time. It was his time last month…but I understand why they dragged it out another month. It’s time for Sami to move on, and it’s time for Bron to shine. Give me Bron Breakker in a squash to win the Intercontinenal Championship.

Colin: It’s Bron Breakker’s time. Simple as that. Bron losing twice in a row to Sami would kill his momentum. Sami’s great and all that, but I think it’s time to switch things up and let Breakker run with this for a while. New champ!

CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre
Seth Rollins as Special Guest Referee

Magnum: I talked about it with my crew during the @TNTHOF ceremonies last month – this has SummerSlam 1997 written all over it. The question, though…is who will Rollins retaliate against? Will it be an errant chairshot to Punk? Or will Seth cost Drew the match? My money’s on Drew antagonizing Seth to the point where he intends to retaliate on Drew, but clobbers Punk instead. There’s money in a Seth/Punk blood feud, and that’s where they were already headed with Mania XL. I’ll take Drew to win.

Colin: I’m also getting vibes of Shawn Michaels as the referee for Bret Hart vs The Undertaker here from SummerSlam 1997 for this one. Drew McIntyre has to win and Seth Rollins will, willingly or unwillingly, help him do it. I think it’s the only logical way to do this and keep Punk strong in the process.

WWE Women’s Championship
Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax

Magnum: This is one of the more challenging picks of the night. You’d think that, similar to Gunther, Nia Jax would be on a trajectory to win the WWE Championship at this show. I just don’t feel like both the Queen and King of the Ring are going to win tonight…so which one will? I guess you’ll have to read on to find out my thoughts on the World Title match…because I’m going with Nia Jax to win the title.

Colin: Bayley didn’t have the best run with the title since winning it at WrestleMania. I feel it’s like an afterthought. I still think she’s the best one to carry it for the time being. And she needs a good win, and that will come against Nia Jax. Bayley retains.

Bonus Question #1: Yes or No – Will there be a MITB cash-in take place during Bayley vs. Nia Jax (either during or after)?

Magnum: No

Colin: No

Women’s World Championship
Liv Morgan (c) vs. Rhea Ripley

Magnum: Here we go. Just when we thought everything with Dom and Rhea is fine…we’re going to find out a whole lot more to the story. This is where the cracks in the Judgment Day start to form. I am taking Liv to retain, and Dom to leave with her. Poor Rhea.

Colin: I’m looking forward the most to this one. This program has really exceled, and I love what they’re doing every week. I have a feeling that Dom Dom will turn on Mami here, it’s the only way forward in this angle I think. Yeah, Ripley is great as champion, but Liv has turned this up a notch or two and I don’t want her to lose it for now. Great feud for a Hell In A Cell at Bad Blood I think. Liv Morgan retains.

Bonus Question #2: Will Dom leave with Liv or Rhea after the end of the match?

Magnum: Liv Morgan

Colin: Liv Morgan

World Heavyweight Championship
Damian Priest (c) vs. Gunther

Magnum: Man, this is being billed as THE Main Event. So why do we have it placed in the middle of the card? Because it’s our Pick’em report, and we can do whatever we want. :oP I’m just playing. As for tonight, everything points to Gunther being crowned champion. Which is why I’m going to take a chance on Damian Priest retaining. He needs a huge bounce back after Money in the Bank, and a signature win at SummerSlam solidifies him as a Main Event player.

Colin: If they are pulling a title switch, would they do it here or at Bash in Berlin? Priest looks like he’s turning face and Gunther is a great heel. I’m really undecided on this one. Not sure which way it will go. I’m going to guess Gunther wins.

Undisputed WWE Championship
Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Solo Sikoa

Magnum: I think Cody gets destroyed here, but he’s going to retain. The bigger question is whether or not we see Roman Reigns make the save. I am inclined to think that he will. Solo will beat Cody from pillar to post, but Cody will make the miraculous comeback and keep the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Colin: I can’t see Solo Sikoa as WWE champion under any scenario and there’s no way Cody is going to drop the title five months after he chased it for two long years. Cody Rhodes will defeat Solo Sikoa, but what’s interesting is what happens after that!!

Bonus Question #3: Yes or No – Will Roman Reigns return before the end of the show?

Magnum: Yes

Colin: Yes

Bonus Question #4: Over or Under on Title Changes – 4.5

Magnum: Under

Colin: Under

Okay, folks, that’s going to do it for us! Enjoy the show tonight, and we’ll see you next time for the Wrestling-Online Pick’em report! @TheMagnumDA signing off.

Three NXT stars wrestle at TNA television tapings in Tampa

Three NXT stars were present at the TNA Impact television tapings last night in Tampa, Florida as the working collaboration between the two promotion continues.

Riley Osborne of Chase U, Wolfgang of Gallus, and Dante Chan all wrestled during the first set of tapings. TNA will continue its second night of television tapings tonight from the same location.

Matt Cardona and Matt and Jeff Hardy are all scheduled to appear tonight during the tapings from the Florida State Fairgrounds.

The Bloodline wins WWE Tag Team titles on Smackdown

DIY’s tag team title reign was cut short after The Bloodline won the titles last night during the main event of Smackdown.

Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga got rid of Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano in under 10 minutes, with Gargano doing the job after Fatu hit a moonsault and an implant DDT for the win. As expected, the match had the interference of both Solo Sikoa and Tonga Lao.

The night ended with the new self-proclaimed Tribal Chief Solo Sikoa posing with the two title belts on his shoulder when the new champions handed over their gold.

Ciampa and Gargano spent a total of just 28 days as champions after they beat A-Town Down Under on the July 5 episode of Smackdown from Toronto.

Over 54,000 tickets out for tonight’s SummerSlam 2024

SummerSlam at the Cleveland Browns Stadium has now over 54,000 tickets out as the final push continues to sell whatever tickets remain leading up to the show.

WWE opened several sections on the hard cam side which increased the total number to 56,600 available seats according to @WrestleTix. Non-WrestleMania stadium shows are not fully open although it seems only the 400 Level seats on the south side of the stadium remain closed.

The company distributed over 51,000 tickets for last year’s show at Ford Field in Detroit, so this year’s event has already surpassed it.

Hundreds of tickets on the floor remain available although prices have gone down significantly now with just hours to go. By the time the show starts, pretty much the whole floor seating will be gone.
