Rusev talks moving from Bulgaria, Lana, Rusev Day, returning to WWE, and more

Rusev sat down with Chris Van Vliet at West Coast Creative Studio in Hollywood, California to discuss his journey from Bulgaria to WWE, how he was paired with Lana, wrestling John Cena at WrestleMania 31, and making his entrance in a tank, the success of Rusev Day, being in the League of Nations and taking a Stunner from Steve Austin, the Bobby Lashley and Lana romance storyline, his Good Ol’ Fashioned Donnybrook match with Sheamus in Paris, and more!

Rusev Day was so hot. When did you start to realize that Rusev Day was getting over?

“I don’t know. It was never meant to be over. It was never supposed to be anything. It was just supposed to be a celebration and here’s the key from the mayor of Plovdiv, my hometown. And it just worked for some reason, I was a heel, but then I started to relax a little bit, show more of my personality and I guess people started buying that. Then Aiden [English], of course, Aiden is such an essential part of this, with the songs, with introductions, with everything. Without him, probably wouldn’t even be the same. But just the combo work, man, it was just me having fun and doing the backstage with the New Day, and then the first shirt. Oh my God. They did one shirt of Happy Rusev Day, which is the first one. I remember putting it out in a backstage promo and there’s the huge reaction from the crowd. What? It’s just a shirt. It’s not that big of a deal. But then it just starts picking up steam and people love chanting Rusev Day and celebrating Rusev Day. I got that sweet treatment. I have a beach towel, I have sunglasses now that says Rusev Day. I have all these things that say Rusev Day. I was like, what is happening here? I couldn’t believe it. And then, yeah, we’re just getting over little by little. It was a good time, even to this day, Hey, happy Rusev Day.”

Was there ever talk of making you a full babyface?

“I don’t know if there was any direction for it necessarily. I remember I’ve been off TV, and I’ve never been off TV. I remember being off TV for a couple of weeks, and I was like, What is going on? Why are we off TV? Before the shows, these people are chanting Rusev Day, and it’s not like, oh, let me get my sh*t in. I thought it was good for the show. If these people were chanting something, we should give them what they want. That’s why I started fighting for it, hey, let’s do something. Then it was getting a little more traction. But I became a United States Champion.”

Just felt like it could have been so much more.

“A lot of things could be. I went over there, I talked to the boss, and I laid my cards in front of him. Everything I can, I did, but what comes after that is not up to me.”

What brought you back to WWE in 2025?

“I wanted to wrestle. I wanted to mix it up with the best. I know that the roster is stacked. I don’t remember the last time it was this stacked, but I just want to mix it with everybody. I wanted to wrestle more and more, and all these European tours and everything. I love all that, I love the grind. Because when we first started, we were five days on the road, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, you go home Wednesday, you’re out on the road again on Friday. And that’s just how life was, as hard as it was, that’s how you get better, just by putting in the work. Because every day you work different towns, you travel. Now the people can only hear about that and be like, Oh, really, that’s what it was. It was so cool. Wrestling, getting beaten up, getting the rental car driving three hours to the next town, getting the hotel, waking up, working out, doing the same thing, makes you feel like a real professional wrestler. I miss the grind.”

League of Nations, they come up with this idea. So it’s Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, Wade Barrett and you

“I think they needed somebody for Roman, to be honest. I think that’s how they came up with it. It was not like, oh, we have this great idea for these four guys. I think they needed somebody for Roman to be a babyface, and that’s why they put us together, which was fun. We got a WrestleMania match. I got to eat the stunner from Steve Austin, which was another dream come true.”

WWE logo

WWE today announced a new multi-year partnership with DUDE Wipes, the global men’s hygiene brand, highlighted by first-of-its-kind integrations with WWE Superstars and enhanced match sponsorships at tentpole WWE events.

As an Official Partner of WWE, DUDE Wipes will have a prominent presence across high-profile WWE events and platforms, strategically activating through enhanced match sponsorships at Premium Live Events, including SummerSlam 2026, curated social and digital content, and a custom DUDE Wipes commercial featuring WWE Superstars.

Additionally, reigning Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio, known for his rebellious in-ring persona and cultural resonance, will participate in a first-of-its-kind integration in which his signature gear will feature DUDE Wipes branding during every in-ring appearance on WWE programming, including Monday Night Raw and various PLEs. The integration debuted this past Monday on Raw, when Mysterio returned to in-ring action wearing his recognizable bandana rib cage t-shirt incorporated with DUDE Wipes branding.

“DUDE Wipes is a disruptive brand that speaks directly to our audience, and this partnership allows us to showcase that connection in a way only WWE can,” said Jesse Tomares, Vice President, Global Partnerships at WWE. “From high impact match sponsorships to unprecedented in ring integrations with Dominik Mysterio, this collaboration delivers a fresh, entertaining approach to brand storytelling at the biggest moments on our calendar.”

“As a lifelong WWE fan, this partnership hits differently for the brand. Us DUDE Wipes founders grew up watching WWE idolizing the superstars of our day. Getting the chance to partner with WWE and Dirty Dom and do something that’s never really been done before is surreal,” said Ryan Meegan, Co-Founder, CMO. “DUDE Wipes has always believed in meeting fans where they are in our own authentic way and we can’t wait to encounter the amazing WWE fans all across the country. We promise to bring the fun and more importantly, the CLEAN with Dom in the best way possible!”

Mystery crate delivered to Raw, reveal at the Elimination Chamber

Just because one masked man is not enough for a mystery, WWE decided to add another mystery, but at least, one which seems to have a reveal date.

On Raw last night, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce had a talk with a delivery man who was holding a clipboard with just an empty piece of paper after he delivered a large crate.

The crate had “Deliver to WWE. Do not open until 2/28/26,” printed on it, which is the date of the Elimination Chamber in Chicago.

Pearce wanted none of the nonsense and instructed the young delivery guy to take it to Nick Aldis on Smackdown.

WrestleMania 41 grosses record-breaking $66 million in gate revenue

WrestleMania 41

A report from Pollstar published by PostWrestling.com revealed that WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas had a whopping $66,074,558 in ticket sales, a record for a professional wrestling event.

The revenue was never announced by WWE or TKO apart from a statement saying that they shattered all records in terms of revenue.

While the Pollstar report did not differentiate between each night, even if splitting it in half at $33 million a night, it would still beat any record in history.

Pollstar also listed the attendance at 113,412 over two nights, slightly lower than the 118,641 than what the Allegiant Stadium announced.

WrestleMania 40 was previously the record-holder in terms of gate revenue not adjusted for inflation, with a combined sales of $38.5 million, split into $18.8 million on Saturday and $19.7 million for Sunday.

The $66 million gate revenue is mainly thanks to soaring ticket prices.

Mandatory source of wealth verification: the shift to open banking APIs in pinup

In the landscape of regulated iGaming, 2026 has brought stringent enforcement of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) directives, specifically regarding the Source of Wealth (SoW). The days of depositing unlimited funds without explanation are over. The new global standard establishes a “trigger threshold” of $2,000 in cumulative monthly deposits. Once a player crosses this line, operators are legally mandated to verify the origin of those funds.

Historically, this trigger point resulted in an automatic account freeze, forcing the user to scramble for physical paperwork like tax returns or stamped bank statements. This manual bureaucratic process often took between 48 and 72 hours, killing the momentum of the gaming session. However, the industry is currently pivoting toward Open Banking technology, a system that replaces PDF uploads with a secure, instant digital handshake.

The $2,000 Threshold: Understanding the Compliance Trigger

The $2,000 limit is not arbitrary; it is the calculated risk point defined by the 6th AML Directive. It applies to the total volume of deposits within a rolling 30-day period, not just a single transaction. If a player deposits $500 weekly, the fourth deposit will trigger the SoW check. For the operator, failing to verify this invites massive regulatory fines. For the player, it historically meant a frustrating pause in service while support agents manually reviewed uploaded documents.

The “pain point” here is not just the delay, but the intrusive nature of the documentation. Sending a full bank statement reveals every coffee purchase and subscription to the casino support staff. This privacy concern has historically led to a 35% drop-off rate, where players simply abandon their accounts rather than submit the required paperwork. The manual verification process is fundamentally flawed: it is slow, insecure, and detrimental to the user experience.

Open Banking API: The Three-Second Solution

To eliminate the friction of manual uploads, forward-thinking casinos have integrated Open Banking APIs directly into the cashier. High-stakes players specifically prefer the seamless experience at Pin Up, where the system instantly validates the source of funds without demanding a pause in gameplay for document scanning. This technology functions as a secure bridge, allowing the user to focus on their session rather than on bureaucratic compliance checks.

Instead of searching for tax documents, the player simply clicks a “Confirm via Bank” button. The system redirects them to their banking app to authorize a read-only token. This token does not grant the casino access to move money or view passwords. It asks the bank a single, binary question: “Does the inflow of funds to this account support a spending capability of $2,000?” The bank’s algorithm analyzes salary or dividend inputs and returns a “Green Light” or “Red Light” signal in approximately 3 seconds.

Technical Mechanics: Tokenization and Data Privacy

The security architecture of this system relies on OAuth 2.0 protocols. When a player authorizes the check, they are not sharing their banking password with the casino. They are logging into their bank’s secure interface, which then issues an encrypted, time-limited token to the operator. This token is “read-only” and “purpose-bound,” meaning it can only be used to verify income sources and cannot be repurposed for any other data mining.

This approach adheres to the principle of “Data Minimization” under GDPR. A manual bank statement upload exposes 100% of a user’s transaction history. The API method exposes 0% of the transaction details. The casino only receives the final validation status (Verified/Unverified) and, in some cases, the generalized bracket of annual income. This creates a privacy firewall, ensuring that the casino compliance team never sees how the player spends their money outside of the platform.

Comparative Analysis: Manual vs. Automated Verification

The efficiency gains from switching to Open Banking are measurable in both time and success rates. For players hitting the $2,000 monthly limit, the difference is between an interrupted weekend and a seamless session. The following table breaks down the operational differences between the legacy document upload method and the modern API integration.

Metric Legacy Manual Verification Open Banking API (2026)
Time to Completion 24 to 72 Hours 3 to 10 Seconds
User Action Required Download, Scan, Upload PDFs Single FaceID/TouchID click
Data Exposure Full Transaction History Binary Result (Pass/Fail)
Success Rate 65% (Document Rejection High) 98% (Direct Bank Data)
Cost to Player Potential Bank Statement Fees Free of Charge

The Future of High-Volume Play

As financial regulations tighten, the “Green Light” system is becoming the standard for high-volume players. The ability to verify Source of Wealth instantly allows players to maintain their VIP status and deposit limits without constant interruptions. It shifts the burden of proof from the user to the algorithm. In the near future, this API integration will likely extend beyond the $2,000 limit, offering a permanent “verified status” that travels with the user across the ecosystem.

For the player, the practical conclusion is clear: utilizing the API verification option is safer and faster than the traditional method. It protects personal data by keeping detailed statements off the casino’s servers and ensures that the gaming session is never paused due to a compliance backlog. In an industry where speed is currency, Open Banking provides the necessary liquidity to keep the game moving.

AEW Grand Slam: Australia pulls in 7,000 in attendance for 2026 episode

Grand Slam Australia

The AEW Grand Slam: Australia show in Sydney this past Saturday drew just over 7,000 fans, down from the 13,000+ the show had the previous year in Brisbane.

The event followed a similar pattern of All In in London where the 2024 edition drew half the audience the previous one did in the same location.

AEW lost its television presence in Australia and the only way to watch the shows is through a Disney+ subscription, which limits its reach greatly.

The company also did a rare non-televised live event the following day in Brisbane, the same location of the first Grand Slam: Australia. The show was also very poorly attended and tickets were being distributed free on the Ticketek website on the day of the event.

Bianca Belair to undergo surgery for broken finger knuckle

Bianca Belair is undergoing surgery on her finger today, a surgery which she hopes will fix a very persistent injury which she has been suffering from for the last 10 months.

Belair broke her finger knuckle in the triple threat match against Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania last year and has been out of action ever since.

Originally, it was thought that it would be healed in around three to four months but the situation got worse as time went on.

Belair has been off WWE TV for several months and her last appearance was at the Evolution premium live event where she served as the guest referee between Jade Cargill and Naomi.

The IInspiration are All Elite!

The former WWE Women’s and TNA Knockouts Tag Team champions left TNA in January after losing their tag titles to The Elegance Brand on the TNA debut on AMC.

Lee and McKay have a chance to become the first ever women’s tag team to win the women’s tag team titles in the three major promotions.

Lena Kross aligns with Megabad in AEW debut in Sydney

One of AEW’s newest arrivals, Lena Kross, made her proper debut at the Grand Slam: Australia show yesterday in Sydney.

Kross, who is from Perth, showed up after the Babes of Wrath retained their AEW Women’s Tag Team titles against Megabad and aligned herself with Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford by flattening Harley Cameron and then joining in the duo in the post-match beat-down.

The 30-year-old appeared on AEW television for the first time in July of last year, losing a quick match to Kris Statlander. She has been wrestling since 2017 and apart from doing the indies, she also had a stint in Japan.
