U.S. Coast Guard suspends Shad Gaspard search and rescue operation

The search operation for Shad Gaspard has been largely scaled back with the U.S. Coast Guard telling TMZ that the search has been suspended.

TMZ reports that one boat was still searching this morning but that’s about it as the chances of a rescue at this point are pretty much impossible. The case will not be closed until a body turns up.

The search started on Sunday with helicopters scouring the area and divers looking underwater for some clue as to where Gaspard might have ended up. After the operation was called off for the night, it resumed yesterday despite the bad weather and was again suspended for the night.

“We had one of our lifeguards go out to make a double rescue of a father and a son. The father unfortunately got pushed down by a wave as they were getting pulled out of the current,” Kenichi Haskett, Los Angeles County Fire Department Lifeguard Division, told DailyMail.com yesterday. “The lifeguard rescued and grabbed the boy, the son, and tried to grab the father as well. He ended up getting pushed down by a wave and we couldn’t find him and we immediately started with our rescue boats, called in additional lifeguards to search that location of his dad.”

Meanwhile, his former tag team partner JTG shared a text message that Gaspard sent him on January 26 of this year which read, “If ever I die tomorrow just know I Love you as a brother and friend for ever, even past this life.”
