Ricky Steamboat reveals why he shot down opportunity to be in Flair’s last match

WWE Hall of Famer Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat revealed for the first time why he shot down the opportunity to be part of Ric Flair’s Last Match this past July.

Speaking to Bill Apter, Steamboat admitted that he talked to Conrad Thompson and drove to Nashville to meet him and originally verbally agreed to the match.

“We hadn’t signed or sealed the deal on the money part of it but what put the nail in the coffin is about a week after that I found out that Flair was wearing a pacemaker,” Steamboat said.

Steamboat noted that all these years he never knew that Flair was fitted with a peacemaker and after finding out, he immediately said no.

“I don’t want my legacy to be that I was in the ring if he happened to pass away or something went wrong,” Steamboat said.

Flair eventually teamed up with his son-in-law Andrade to take on Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett. Steamboat also returned to the ring a few months later teaming up with FTR at a different event.
