Report says Vince McMahon tried to buy back documentary rights from Netflix

A new report by Matthew Belloni of Puck News said that Vince McMahon tried to buy his documentary rights back from Netflix according to two sources familiar with the situation.

His move was rebuffed by Netflix and McMahon even tried to engage the help of Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel at the time after he became “nervous” about it, but Netflix kept the rights and moved on with the documentary.

The six-part docuseries, which hits the streaming service on September 25, will chronicle McMahon’s rise and fall, ending with his sexual abuse allegations and departure from TKO.

The documentary, according to Belloni, was supposed to be released in March of this year but after the lawsuit sparked headlines around the world, filmmaker Chris Smith restarted the project to capture the fallout from McMahon’s departure.

The documentary was proposed in 2019 and received the blessing of McMahon himself and WWE for production. Several WWE stars and members of the McMahon family, including himself, are interviewed.
