NJPW issues statement on Mercedes Mone’s injury

A few days following her injury at the NJPW Resurgence show this past Sunday, New Japan Pro-Wrestling issued a statement on their website addressing what happened.

“During her match with Willow Nightingale in the main event of Resurgence May 21, Mercedes Moné sustained an injury to her right ankle. Moné underwent a thorough appraisal of her injury immediately after her match and began treatment. New Japan Pro-Wrestling joins fans in wishing Moné a full and fast recovery,” the statement read.

Mone is believed to have broken her ankle, although that hasn’t been 100% confirmed yet, and changed the ending of the match on the fly as she was originally scheduled to win the NJPW Strong Women’s title.

“I’m gonna heal and be back better than ever,” Mone tweeted after the show, admitting it was not how she dreamt for the night to go down.
