The man formerly known as Ridge Holland issued a statement on social media today, saying that he is shutting down the GoFundMe campaign created by one of his family members.
The Brit said that he was not aware of the campaign when it went live and had no prior discussion or approval with the family member who created it.
“I’ve since requested that no further donations be accepted, and this change should take effect within the next 24 hours,” he wrote.
He added that once he’s back working, he will donate the full amount of money raised to charity.
The GoFundMe campaign raised $10,168 at time of this writing, with donations from Chelsea Green, Omos, Nick Jackson, Kyle Fletcher, and Jinder Mahal all pitching in $1,000 each.
“I sincerely apologize if the page caused any upset or offense – that was never the intention. Thank you for your understanding and kindness,” he added.
Holland faced some criticism from fans who argued that someone who had been working for WWE for such a long time should not have found himself in that financial situation.
