Gabe Sapolsky and Cary Silkin comment on ROH sale to Tony Khan

Two names very synonymous with Ring of Honor – Gabe Sapolsky and Cary Silkin – took to social media to react to the news of the sale of ROH to Tony Khan.

Sapolsky co-founded the promotion with RF Video owner Rob Feinstein in 2002 and took over the creative duties for the indie promotion until he left in 2008. After founding EVOLVE Wrestling, Sapolsky moved to WWE as a consultant but was released in January of this year.

“Congrats to Tony Khan on becoming owner of Ring Of Honor. I never dreamed 20 years ago that it would be a part of a prominent promotion on TBS. This is wild,” Sapolsky wrote. “So happy that many more can enjoy the legacy of ROH and it will continue to blaze a path in the world of pro wrestling.”

Cary Silkin, who operated ROH from 2004 until the promotion was sold to Sinclair Broadcast Group in 2011, added, “Congratulations to Tony Khan on his purchase of Ring of Honor Wrestling. At least I know my baby is in good hands. What a long strange trip it’s been as we move forward!”

Silkin was appointed as an ambassador for Ring of Honor during the Sinclair run.

ROH announced late last year that it would pause operations for a few months to think about the way forward and then said it would relaunch under a new format at the Supercard of Honor XV show during WrestleMania weekend in Dallas. All talent under contract were released and the idea was for ROH to operate as a proper indie promotion with no contracts and paying per appearance.

It’s worth nothing that the sale was not to All Elite Wrestling but to Tony Khan who is running it as a separate company and entity from AEW.
