Former TNA and AEW star Rebel announced on social media that she was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Sharing the news in a video and obviously emotional about it, the 47-year-old said that she has been feeling sick for over a year and decided to head to the Mayo Clinic to see if she can get treated there for what she thought was cryptococcal pneumonia.
Much to her surprise, doctors told her she’s not suffering from that, but rather it’s pulmonary lymphoma, which is cancer in the lungs.
“And if there is a best case scenario then I have it so that’s good,” she said.
Rebel, real name Tanya Brooks, added that she is starting full-time rehab tomorrow for a disorder that she developed called functional neurological disorder, which took away her ability to walk, affected her speech, and lost some function in her right hand.
“I now walk with a walker and my ability to speak clearly, I don’t know if you can tell, but it sounds like I bit my tongue,” she continued.
She also is suffering from an infection and her cancer treatment cannot start until the antibiotics prescribed for her infection do the work. She is targeting December to undergo a bronchoscopy to determine what kind of treatment she needs and hopes that in January she can start tackling the cancer.
Rebel has not wrestled for AEW since 2021.
