Cain Velasquez charged with attempted and premeditated murder

Former UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was charged with attempted, premeditated murder, and other related charges and was arraigned yesterday in Department 23 at the Hall of Justice in San Jose.

“The sad tragedy is that Mr. Velasquez chose to take the law into his own hands, endangering the public and everyone in the truck,” District Attorney Jeff Rosen said. “This act of violence also causes more pain and suffering to his family.”

The former WWE star began shooting at the victims at Cochran Road and Butterfield Boulevard in Morgan Hill around 3PM on Monday. According to a press release issued by the Santa Clarita Prosecutor’s Office, Velasquez, driving a Ford truck, engaged in an 11-mile high-speed chase through the busy streets into San Jose, following the victims’ Chevrolet Silverado truck. After he rammed his truck, he fired multiple rounds with his registered .40 handgun. A female passenger in the Silverado called 911 for help.

His intended target was Harry Goularte, a 43-year-old male who is facing felony charges that he molested a child who happened to be a close relative of Velasquez. One of the shots fired hit his step father, who was hospitalized, but expected to survive.

Velasquez could face incarceration if convicted.
