Brian Christopher Lawler passes away

Brian Christopher Lawler passed away at age 46, hours after he hung himself in a cell at the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department.

Known in WWE as Brian Christopher and Grandmaster Sexay, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler made his pro wrestling debut in 1988 working for the United States Wrestling Association where he spent nine years.

In 1997, WWE came knocking and Christopher joined the ranks to be part of the light heavyweight division. A year later, he was teamed up with Scott Taylor and they former the tag team Too Much. They later renamed to Too Cool and were joined by Rikishi, enjoying a good run in the tag team division due to their immense popularity with the fans. In 2001, Christopher was released from WWE after he tried to cross the Canada/U.S. border with illegal drugs and was arrested.

In 2002, he joined TNA Wrestling, lasting nearly two years until 2004 when he rejoined the WWE. A month after he was signed by Jim Ross, the new head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis released him, sending him to the indies.

Brian Lawler made some appearances for WWE after that, notably on Raw during the Cole/Lawler feud leading up to WrestleMania and then during an Old School episode of Raw in 2014, joining his former tag team partners Scotty 2 Hotty and Rikishi. His last appearance for the company was in February 2014 at NXT Arrival where Too Cool lost to The Ascension.

Unfortunately for him, his personal life had a lot of run-ins with the law. His last one came earlier this month where he was arrested for a DUI and evading police.
