Awesome Kong announces retirement during NWA Empower event

In an emotional moment during last night’s NWA Empower pay-per-view, Awesome Kong announced her retirement from professional wrestling.

Kong’s appearance came when Gail Kim was in the ring to discuss the show and was interrupted by Paola Blaze, Jennacide, and Taryn Terrell. Kong then came out and got rid of all three of them, leaving the ring for just her and Kim.

Kong admitted that she had a rough year but knowing Kim would be here, that was enough for her to sum up the courage to come out and confront her. Kong said that Gail was her greatest opponent ever, loved her, and she would not have wanted any other way to retire other than being in the ring with her. The two then embraced to end the feel-good segment.

Awesome Kong and Gail Kim had an epic feud in Impact Wrestling and Kong always spoke very highly of Kim and vice versa.

Kong was originally signed with AEW but did not last long as the company did not pick her contract up again when it expired. She was also busy with the Netflix show GLOW but that was also canceled.
