William Regal’s AEW status in question as insiders point to WWE return

Speculation is running rampant on the contract status of William Regal who was seemingly written out last night after MJF attacked him.

Regal originally signed a three-year deal with AEW but Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer said that “something was going on” and while he had some information given to him off-the-record which he was not at liberty to repeat, the situation is an interesting one as there’s no guarantee that he’s staying.

Meanwhile, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Wrestling is reporting that people within the AEW organization believe that Regal’s contract is actually up this month while PWInsider.com adds fuel to the fire by saying that there have been rumblings that Regal is on his way back to WWE in an executive position.

Regal was one of the most trusted lieutenants of Paul “Triple H” Levesque and served as WWE’s Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting during his tenure there. Unfortunately for Regal, he was part of several people who were cut when the old regime gutted Triple H’s staff in January 2022 and he then moved to AEW in March.

Triple H this past week tweeted a video montage of Regal saying “WarGames” from his NXT days adding, “Tonight just wouldn’t be the same without…”
