Tony Khan open to moving Dynamite to different night if there’s “a really good deal”

The news that WarnerMedia acquired the second rights package for the NHL has made AEW fans uneasy about the possibility of TNT moving AEW off Wednesday nights.

It has not been decided how the games will be distributed among TNT and TBS yet but it could be that AEW might be pre-empted on some important game nights although it’s highly unlikely that TNT would permanently move Dynamite to a different night.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan said that their television deal with TNT is their primary source of revenue and described it as AEW’s lifeblood. The AEW President said that they have a two-and-a-half years left in their deal with TNT to air on Wednesdays.

“If there was ever an opportunity to move or a deal to be had, I would consider it,” Khan said when pressed about the possibility of changing nights.

Khan has said in the past that they would never do Mondays because of Monday Night Football. Tuesday is now NXT, and Thursday there’s NFL as well. Friday there’s Smackdown, and a weekend show is not something that anyone would want for obvious reasons.

“If we did something…it would have to be a really good deal for AEW and make sense for us. As it stands right now, that is the spot we are in,” Khan continued. “If we move, I would certainly consider a deal if there was something in it for AEW.”

NXT was moved to Tuesday after NBC Sports announced its shutting down and all sport properties would be moving to other NBCUniversal properties, including USA Network. The NHL aired on Wednesdays on NBCSN but NBCU pulled out of the bidding war.
