Former AEW champion MJF will have a shot at the CMLL Light Heavyweight title next week.

MJF will wrestle champion Averno at Arena Mexico on Friday, August 1 and this will be just MJF’s second match with the Mexican promotion.

Averno has held the title since March 29, 2024, which puts him at 482 days and counting. He will need to overcome MJF to reach the 500-day milestone.

MJF also has a contract to wrestle for the AEW World title any time after he won the Casino Gauntlet match at All In: Texas.
