After WWE dropped the trademark application for Cody Rhodes, the AEW TNT champion is now able to use his full name again on AEW television.

Cody has been going by his first name only because up until now, WWE owned the trademark of Cody Rhodes. As you know, Rhodes is not Cody’s real last name and he used that name only while in WWE.

HeelByNature.com reported that on November 2, WWE filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to drop the trademark and it was confirmed yesterday. Cody had already filed an application to trademark his name when WWE forgot to renew it, but then submitted a renewal earlier this year to lock it.

“As of this morning, I no longer have just one name…whether Justin Roberts says it or not…it feels really good to be Cody Rhodes again,” Cody said after Dynamite went off the air.

When WWE renewed the application, Cody said that it “is not as sultry/scandalous as reported” and said it’s just business. “They’ve seen the same data we have, and they know they can make big money off the brand (even though it’s not in their house). Trying to license me is flattering, but it doesn’t stop this train from moving. No grudge,” Cody wrote a few months ago.

It’s not known if WWE and Cody got to some sort of an agreement over the rights of his wrestling name.
