CM Punk suffers “serious injury” and will have to undergo surgery

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that AEW World champion CM Punk suffered a “serious injury” at All Out during the match against Jon Moxley and will require surgery.

The AEW World title situation will be addressed tonight because no matter what happens with Punk and the fallout from his backstage brawl, a new champion has to be crowned.

If Punk gets away with just a suspension, it won’t really matter as it will be months before he returns to the ring. Meltzer said that the injury happened when he went for a tope on Mox.

The champ just returned from three months out after suffering a leg injury on the Dynamite after Double or Nothing. He kept the title and an interim one was crowned, which was Moxley. Moxley then defeated Punk on Dynamite to unify the titles in just three minutes but lost the title on Sunday at All Out back to Punk.
