Athena and Nightingale make ROH history with first women’s main event

ROH Women’s champion Athena and Willow Nightingale made history last night as they became the first two women to main event a Ring of Honor pay-per-view in 21 years.

Their ROH Women’s title match closed the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view, with Claudio Castagnoli and PAC for the ROH World title co-main eventing before it.

In the post-show press-conference, an emotional Athena said that she never main evented a pay-per-view before and the gesture meant a lot to her. Both Athena and Nightingale are African Americans and Athena said that representation is key and she brought back memories of being the only black woman on indie shows she participated in.

This match became the first women’s main event to headline a PPV since Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair did it at WrestleMania 37.
