All Elite Wrestling, just like the rest of the wrestling world, is in mourning right now following the death of Brodie Lee. Lee joined AEW in March but left a big impression on those who he worked with in such a short time.
“The All Elite Wrestling family is heartbroken. In an industry filled with good people, Jon Huber was exceptionally respected and beloved in every way – a fierce and captivating talent, a thoughtful mentor and simply a very kind soul that starkly contradicted his persona as Mr. Brodie Lee,” AEW wrote in a statement. “Jon’s love for his wife Amanda, and children Brodie and Nolan, was evident to all of us who were fortunate to spend time with him, and we send our love and support to his beautiful family, today and always. Jon’s popularity among his peers and influence s on the wrestling world was worldwide and transcended AEW, so this loss will be felt by many for a long time.”
Cody Rhodes, who was the last man to wrestle him in October, said that his heart is stricken by the loss of Brodie Lee. “It was obvious he was an extremely gifted athlete and storyteller, and his gift beyond that was to challenge you and he set the bar very high,” Cody wrote. “Upon anybody’s first meeting with him…it was even more apparent he was a family man and a first class human being. I got to share his last number…I got to have his last match. That is an honor and a privilege and an experience so ferociously humbling. Thank you ‘Big Rig.” We will honor you and your family.”
AEW President Tony Khan said he was devastated by the loss of Huber. “Jon was a great man. His family came first, his loving wife Amanda & their sons Brodie + Nolan. He loved wrestling & was great at it, he loved you fans. Please keep him in your hearts.”
Brandi Rhodes added, “I love and miss you Jon. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me and my family. We all love you so very much. You were such a great man. It’s been my pleasure and privilege to know and work with you. Your family is our family now. We will watch over them. Rest now friend.”
The Young Bucks simply tweeted, “We love you Brodie.” AEW Women’s champion Hikaru Shida added, “I can’t find any words… Just want to pray for him and his family for now.” Marko Stunt wrote, “It doesn’t feel real posting this…This is one of my favorite pictures that I’ve never posted,” adding a funny photo of Lee lifting him by his ear.
“Was a true honor every time we locked horns,” Dustin Rhodes tweeted. “You were a damn great man, husband and father. This stings. You will be sorely missed Jon. I will always remember out times together.”
Matt Hardy wrote, “I’m shattered over Brodie’s passing. He was full of life with a wife & young children he loved. A devastating reminder of how fragile life is. Rest well, friend.”
10 of The Dark Order said that Brodie was one of the best humans he ever met and hit it off as soon as they met. “He was an amazing performer, a mentor, but more importantly a dear friend. You will never be forgotten. Thank you for everything.” Stu Grayson also of The Dark Order added, “Jon was genuinely one of the best, honest and kindest man I’ve ever known. He was like that the very first day I met him back in 2007 and was like that the very last day I saw him. I will always only have good memories of him. I love you man.”
Impact Wrestling, which is now working with AEW, issued a short statement writing, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Brodie Lee. We offer our sincerest condolences to his friends and family.”
Ring of Honor, where Huber wrestled during his indie days, also sent its condolences. “Ring of Honor is saddened to learn that Brodie Lee has died. He was 41. Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 275 pounds, Lee was one of the most agile big men of his era. During his time in ROH (2008-2009), Lee was a member of The Age of the Fall and engaged in a feud with Necro Butcher. ROH extends its deepest condolences to Lee’s family, friends and fans”
