Bonjour, my friends! It’s @TheMagnumDA with another edition of the Pick’em report. This time, we are back in Paris for The Clash! The King of the Summer Pick’ems (yours truly) will be defending the WOPC Championship against our very own Colin Vassallo.
We’re aware of the MINOR possibility of Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton being added to the Clash card, but as of right now, that has not been officially announced. So for now, we’re going to do this Pick’em with Confidence Pool rules – 6 points for the match you feel most confident about, and 1 point for the pick you feel least confident about.
With that in mind, let’s get this party started!
ON WITH THE PICKS!!!
Good Ol’ Fashioned Donnybrook – No DQ Match
Sheamus vs. Rusev
Colin: Rusev hasn’t really done much since he switched from AEW and it’s a waste. He went from not being used to barely being used. I’m glad with both being from this side of the world, they both get to perform in front of European fans. I’m rooting for Rusev to win, but I think Sheamus is going to get the W here. (1 point)
Magnum: Pun definitely intended…this will be a banger. This has been a fantastic, wild feud that has produced numerous brawls and angles on Raw. In the end, this is about putting Rusev on the map, and anything other than a victory would be a complete disservice to bringing him back. I expect this one to be their best effort, and I also expect Rusev to get the duke. (5 points)
Roman Reigns vs. Bronson Reed (with Paul Heyman)
Colin: If there’s ever a six points to assign in a confidence pool, well, this would be it. And in favor of Bronson Reed. Kidding. I have a feeling Reigns was added because Cody is not there otherwise, our Tribal Chief would not be anywhere close to Paris tonight. With that said, the OTC needs his shoes back from the Tribal Thief, and he’ll get them tonight. Reigns wins. (6 points)
Magnum: If I’m Bronson Reed, I have to be over the moon with this match. To share the ring with the OTC in a 1-on-1…it’s gotta be beyond his wildest dreams. Couldn’t be happier for The Tribal Thief. Now, do I think he’s going to pull off one of the biggest upsets of all time? Not quite. Roman‘s going to win, but Reed will likely drop a Tsunami or two on Reigns after the match…and that’s just as effective as any win. (6 points)
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Becky Lynch (c) vs. Nikki Bella
Colin: This should have been Stephanie Vaquer vs whoever her opponent might have been for the WWE Women’s World title. There was no reason why they shouldn’t have put that match on tonight. It would have made a great visual to crown a new champion in front of 30K. But whatever. Listen, I don’t mind Nikki at all. I like her. I’m not on the Bella Hate Bandwagon. But she ain’t getting that title. The only title she might win is if her sister returns and they go for the tag team gold. But yeah, Becky wins. (4 points)
Magnum: I’m not a fan of what Becky said about Ozzy Osbourne or the town of Birmingham…but in general, people don’t respect the dead like they used to. I mean, look at those AI videos Rod Stewart made…not to mention, they still continue to run Real American Beer commercials featuring Hulk Hogan, but I digress. As for the match, Becky Hogan…err…Lynch is going to retain here. Bella’s comeback hasn’t caught fire the way she wanted it to, and she’s in political limbo for continuing to bring up her Sister (who is persona non grata). I don’t think this comeback is going to last – Big Time Becks wins it. (3 points)
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
The Wyatt Sicks (Gacy & Lumis) vs. The Street Profits
Colin: The entrance for The Wyatt Sicks should be great. Fireflies and all that. The Smackdown Tag Team division is stacked and I don’t want to see The Street Profits champs again for now. I’ll put my money (points, in this case) on the Wyatts. (2 points)
Magnum: I would not be surprised if this was the match that brought about a huge upset. Losing this match would be the catalyst for the Wyatts’ heel turn. I’ll go ahead and put a point on The Street Profits to get the win. (1 point)
John Cena vs. Logan Paul
Colin: Can’t believe Cena is wrestling Paul on his retirement tour. That was not on my bingo card. Paul really brought it this past week with his promo and he was excellent interacting with the fans’ chants. And he speaks French, too! Qui l’aurait cru? I don’t see Cena losing here, and he’s going to give Paul another lesson tonight! Cena wins! (5 points)
Magnum: Great mic work by Cena leading up to this match – he’s saying everything that everybody thinks about Paul, really sticking it to him in ways that others haven’t. Meanwhile, Paul has responded by knocking Cena out with a suckerpunch. He’s really rewriting the book on being the heel, no? Lol, anyways…Cena’s going to drop this fool, and it’s going to be sweet. Cena wins. (2 points)
Fatal 4 Way – World Heavyweight Championship
Seth Rollins (c) vs. CM Punk vs. Jey Uso vs. LA Knight
Colin: These four can’t seem to get away from each other. The biggest question is, who takes the fall? *cough* LA Knight *cough* Looking forward to this though and I’m sure it will be one hell of a match with a lot of near falls. No new champion though, I’m afraid. I can still picture Rollins vs Punk as WrestleMania 42 main event. Rollins retains. (3 points)
Magnum: I liked how this was put together – Punk tried to align himself with the other babyfaces, but they didn’t want anything to do with him. Very smart on the part of Knight and Uso, but I think this will be put to another test on Sunday. These guys will likely find ways to work with each other to take down Rollins, but eventually there will be a mishap where Rollins will take advantage – Seth wins and retains. (4 points)
Alright fans, that’s going to do it for us here at the Pick’em report. We will be back in just three weeks for WRESTLEPALOOZA!! Thank you for checking us out – we’ll see you next time! @TheMagnumDA signing off.
